Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English 10

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. define conflict, setting and characters;
b. construct their own story based on a given setting;
c. differentiate the types of conflict; and
d. relate supporting characters in real life.

The teacher will show picture of places/settings, the students will then
need to make their own short story about the place, mentioning some characters.
II. Activity
The activity was the assigned assignment to the student, page 440, Task 2
DOUBLE MATCHING TYPE.
The students must match the setting in column A with the characters in
Column B and the conflict in Column C.

IV. Abstraction
Last meeting the teacher have discussed a short description about the elements of
the story, the teacher will ask the students if they can recall each of those.
The teacher will discuss that each column represents the setting, the characters
and the conflict. Conflict makes the story exciting, it is the struggle of the short story
between the protagonist, the antagonist as well as other characters in the story.
The teacher will now discuss the answers in the activity.

Types of Conflict:
Man vs. Man – a character struggles with another character.
Protagonist vs. Antagonist
Man vs. Himself – the character’s struggle takes place in his/her mind. Usually
has something to do with a choice (choosing between right or wrong) or it may
have to do with overcoming emotions or mixed feelings.
Man vs. Nature – a character struggles with force of nature (natural disaster,
animal), usually the character struggles to survive.
Man vs. Society – a character or a group of characters fight against the society in
which they live. The character fight against social tradition or rules (freedom,
rights etc)
V. Application
By Group. Construct your own story, including any of the given type of conflict.
To be presented on Friday. (Role Play)
