are tattoo anthropologists necessary?

the problem is that the last tattoo artists from these communities are leaving this world and there
are less and less artists left, so it is important that tattoo anthropologists keep investigating these
tattoo traditions

Polynesia

young people were tattooed from adolescence, and it was how they marked their passage from
childhood to adulthood. Thus, the more tattoos a man had, the greater his maturity and prestige,
so that the strongest chiefs and warriors had the most ornaments on their skin.

But tattoos were not exclusive to men. Women also got their right hand tattooed as teenagers,
and from that moment on they could prepare food and participate in funeral rites. As they gained
status, they tattooed other parts of their bodies.
