What is TEFL

TEFL (Teaching English as Foreign Lenguage) is an English language material that teaches English
as a foreign language because the context is that English is a language that is not a domestic
language or is not a basic language in Indonesia, therefore in the TEFL material a foreign language
is mentioned.

Understanding TEFL according to experts

• According to Widdowson(1987:6) define The language that is being taught could be used to
present subject matter and the students would learn the language as a by product of learning
about real world content.
• According to (Brinton et al 1989: 3) said that TEFL is the use of language which refers to
integrated skills, language has a purpose. In learning theory, the use of informational content
that learners find relevant is assumed by many to increase motivation in language courses and
thus to promote more effective learning.
• According to (Styker and leaver 1993:292) Like Learner's roles, in this method have teacher
roles. They must be knowledge able in the subject matter and able to elicit taht knowledge from
their students (Styker and Leaver 1993: 292).
