Essay
1. What is the importance of biogeochemical cycles in shaping the biosphere?
-The importance of biogeochemical cycles in shaping the biosphere, it regulates Earth’s climate
as well as the chemistry of the atmosphere and oceans. Also the geochemical feedback in the
Earth system or the rock weathering thermostat helps to keep the planet’s habitable, that’s
why biogeochemical cycles important to both living and non-living organisms.

2. How does human activity affect these cycles?

-Human activities affect these cycle by means of fossil fuel burning, land-cover change, and
cement production are some of the major causes of increasing carbon, nitrogen and

phosphorous from the Earth’s crust and atmosphere to the environment. These may lead to
climate change that will increase the vulnerability of biodiversity, food security, human health
and water quality to a changing climate.
