and incorporated to processes, procedures, equipments and materials for AzSPU MAJOR
PROJECTS use in the Caspian Sea area.
This specification document (Site Technical Practice, STP) replaces ETP:GP 04-20
(Guidance on Practice for Civil Engineering) and ETP:GP 04-10 (Guidance on Practice for
Drainage System) document for the Azerbaijan Major Projects Performance Unit.
The work covered by this specification consists of furnishing all equipment, materials, and
labor, and performing all operations required to furnish, fabricate, and deliver steel bar
grating.
The current edition unless noted otherwise, at date of contract award, of the relevant parts of
the following codes, standards, and specifications shall form an integral part of this
Specification.

3.4.1 The manufacture of steel bar grating shall be in accordance with the ANSI/NAAMM MBG 531.
3.4.2 Grating shall be the serrated, welded steel bar type. Maximum clear span shall be limited to
1.5m, unless noted otherwise on drawings.
3.4.3 Maximum panel width shall be 1.0 m unless dictated otherwise by special conditions.
3.4.4 Grating shall be galvanised and seal welded in accordance with ASTM A 385 or A123 as
noted on drawings.
3.5 Fabrication
3.5.1 Grating
3.5.1.1 Location and limits of grating and the direction of the span of grating bearing bars shall be as
shown on the drawings.
3.5.1.2 At joints in the grating floor system, cross sections of bearing bars for grating panels shall be
aligned with cross sections of abutting panels to maintain spacing symmetry. Grating joints
shall occur only at supports.
3.5.1.3 Clearance allowances shall be included for fitting grating panels together, penetrations, toe
plates and other similar details. They shall be in accordance with the drawings.
3.5.1.4 Grating panels shall be fabricated in sections at banded openings in order to facilitate erection
and removal.
3.5.1.6 Where grating areas are shown as removable on the drawings, the weight of fabricated
grating sections for such areas shall not exceed 68 kg.
3.5.2 Banding
3.5.2.1 Edges of removable grating panels shall be banded with material having the same
dimensions as the bearing bars. Edges of other grating panels need not be banded unless
indicated otherwise on the drawings.
3.5.2.2 Openings and cut-outs in grating panels for piping, conduit, and equipment shall be banded
as indicated on the drawings.
3.5.2.3 Banding shall be attached to the grating by welding with E60XX electrodes. Welding shall be
in accordance with ANSI/AWS D1.1M-2006 and the requirements shown on the drawings.
Grating and grating anchors shall be galvanised in accordance with ASTM A 123.
If specified on the drawings, fiber glass grating can be used in lieu of steel grating. The size
and details shall be as per noted on the design drawings.
3.8 Installation
The Contractor shall be responsible for any repair work to be done on the grating after being
installed.
All connection of grating to steel member shall be in strict compliance with vendor
recommendation.
