1. Start off with a youtube video that introduces wants and needs.

2. Allow time for questions.
3. Use the example of having a laptop right now for school, ask if that is a need.
a. Yes, currently having a computer is needed for your education.
4. Ask students what are some other things they use everyday and have them think
to themselves if they are needs or wants.

Development/Teaching Approaches:
1. Using the powerpoint created about wants and needs, follow through the slides
explaining the differences and examples of each.

2. When you get to slide 6, ask students if they believe if a “brand new shirt” is a
need or a want?
a. Once students provide some answers and discussion, scroll to the next
slide for an explanation on how it can be both.
3. Slides 9-18 show various images asking if they are a want or a need.
a. Demonstrate slide 9 (Teddy Bear) explain why the teddy bear would be a
want.
b. Continue through each slide, having students give a thumbs up if the
object is a need, and a thumbs down if the object is a want. Have them
explain their answers.
4. On slide 19, ask the students the difference between a want and a need. Have
them give various examples. Allow time for at least 5 students to share.
5. Once finished with the slide, open up the google doc

a. Have students work picture by picture to identify wants and needs. Guide
instruction if needed.
Closure/Summarizing Strategies:
1. Have students grab a second device or open a new tab to prepare for Kahoot.
2. Once all students are ready to go, start “Wants and Needs” kahoot (10
questions).
3. Allow time for questions before lunch.

Accommodations/Differentiation:
1. Students who need extra practice can watch the introduction youtube video
again, and the slides if necessary, working slowly through each example.
2. Excelling students can show examples in their home of wants and needs.
