This document provides instructions for running the Maicero crop simulation model to analyze crop response to nitrogen and water availability. It instructs the user to download and install Maicero, then run simulations for a site in Junín, Argentina under different soil moisture and nitrogen levels. The simulations analyze recommended fertilizer rates, nitrogen use efficiency between two nitrogen rates, and how soil moisture at planting impacts the model outputs.

CROP PHYSIOLOGY COURSE – CROP RESPONSE TO NITROGEN AND WATER AVAILABILITY
1) Install Maicero in your computer following these instructions:
Go to https://ced.agro.uba.ar/moodle/, and access to the Crop Physiology course using your Username and Password. Go to Unit 5 and download the file Maicero2.rar. Copy the file to the Desktop of your computer. Unzip the file. The folder Maicero2 should appear on the Desktop Open the file and click on the Maicero2.exe file.
2) Run Maicero for the following scenery:
Site: Junín; Soil type: Rojas; Sowing date: sep-15; Hybrid: intermediate-cycle high yielding; Soil water content at sowing: field capacity; Percentage of organic carbon in soil: 2.30; P: without limitation; S: without limitation.
a) What would be the recommended fertilizer rate?
b) What is the NUE between 50 kg N/ha and 100 kg N/ha? c) What do the percentiles 80 and 20 represent?
3) Run Maicero for the same scenery but considering:
Soil water content at sowing: dry (lower limit).
a) Which differences can you detect respect to the previous scenery?
