Regulatory Takings After Knick offers an overview of recent legal challenges regarding when government entities “take”
private property for public use by regulation. An expert in land use, property and state and local government law, Professor
Callies is a prolific scholar who has lectured around the world and authored or collaborated on approximately 90 articles and
20 books. He is a 30-year member of the American Law Institute and a life member of Clare Hall, Cambridge University.
Professor Callies is the 2017 Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Prize Recipient, an award conferred annually by William &
Mary Law School to a scholar, practitioner, or jurist whose work affirms the fundamental importance of property rights.
Professor Callies has received numerous awards for his academic achievements including The Owners’ Counsel of America’s
Crystal Eagle Award, the Lambda Alpha International Member of the Year Award, and the Jefferson Fordham Lifetime
Achievement Award, which is conferred by the ABA’s Section of State and Local Government Law. He is the recipient of
the Regents Medalist for Excellence in Teaching at the University of Hawai‘i.
