GENERAL 1.1) Engine type HYUNDAI-MAN B&W, two-stroke, single acting, direct reversible, crosshead type diesel engine with constant pressure turbocharging. Model : HYUNDAI-MAN B&W 12K98MC MK6. 1.2) Rules and Regulations The engine shall be designed and constructed in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of Classification Society prevailing at the date of shipbuilding contract. The Rule of Germanischer Lloyd : + AUT 1.3) Scope of Supply Some parts and arrangements described in this Specification may be mentioned more than once and in more than one place. The delivery comprises, however, only one such piece/set/part/arrangement. The following shall be supplied for one(1) ship. (For the details, please refer to items 4, 5 and 6 in this specification.) (1) Diesel engine complete 1 set (2) Accessories 1 set (3) Spare parts and tools 1 set (4) Bridge remote control system(Norcontrol AC-4) 1 set 1.4) Engine design and manufacturing HYUNDAI-MAN B&W diesel engine is to be manufactured based on the latest design received from the licensor as of the date of the contract at Ulsan works, Engine & Machinery Division of Hyundai Heavy Ind. Co., Ltd. under license of MAN B&W Diesel A/S in Denmark. Some components can differ from Licensor's design because of production facilities or the application of local standard components. However, spare parts for major engine components are interchangeable with Licensor designed parts. Materials and standards applied to the engine design and construction shall be in accordance with Korean Industrial Standard(equivalent to Japanese ---HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO., LTO.-~: PAGE : 3 of 29 DOC. All plans such as plans for approval, finished plans, instruction books and other documents shall be written in English. Also, name plates and caution plates shall be written in English. GUARANTEE 3.1) Specific Fuel Oil Consumption (1) The specific fuel oil consumption at maximum continuous rating (ie. 68,640 kW x 94 rpm) as optimized rating shall be guaranteed to be : 171 g/kWh with using high efficiency turbocharger with tolerance margin of +5% during the shop trial using marine diesel fuel oil based on following conditions. ~ Blower inlet temperature 25 ~ Blower inlet pressure 1,000 mbar ~ Charge air coolant temperature : 25 T - Fuel oil lower calorific value 2 42,700 ku/ko (10,200 kcal/kg) (2) Conversion formulas for fuel oil consumption The fuel oil consumption measured will be adjusted according to the conversion factors in the below table provided that the maximum combustion pressure (Pmax) is adjusted to the nominal value, or if the Pmax is not re-adjusted to the nominal value. PAGE : 15 of 29 DOC. NO. Al4-256482-5 6. TOOLS The standard tools for overhauling and inspection are to be supplied in accordance with the manufacturer's standard. Most of tools are to be furnished on steel plate panels in order to facilitate maintenance, dismantling and overhauling. * Note : For more details, please refer to "List of tools for main engine" submitted separately for approval 7. PAINTING 7.1) Outer side of the engine Outer side of the engine (including the pipes) shall be painted with Clear Varnish 7.2) Inner_side of the crankcase Inner side of the crankcase shall be painted with an oil resistant paint (two coatings, Munsell No. N-9 in white colour) 7.3) Exhaust_manifold Surface for the exhaust manifold prior to insulation shall be painted with a heat-resistant paint (two coatings). 7.4) Others Others shall be in accordance with manufacturer's standard. ---HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO., LTD. INSPECTION AND SHOP TEST 8.1) Inspection All inspections are to be carried out in accordance with the Rules of Classification Society and enginebuilder's inspection standard. Only the material tests and inspection required by the Rules of Classification Society are to be carried out in the presence of Surveyor of the Classification Society IMO NOx survey and certification is to be conducted in accordance with IMO NOx technical code and the Statement of Compliance of EIAPP (Engine International Air Pollution Prevention) certificate to be issued 8.2) Shop test Only the shop test and overhaul inspection are to be carried out in the presence of the owner's representative and surveyor of the Classification Society. However, if the owner's representative can not attend the foresaid test and inspection due to his convenience, these tests and inspections are to be entrusted to the surveyor of the Classification Society and/or the enginebuilder's inspector, and results of those inspections are to be accepted by the owner. ‘At the time of the shop test, marine diesel fuel oil is to be used, and lub. oil is to be in accordance with the engine manufacturer's standard. NO. Ald: 10. CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS (These explanations as hereinafter are made for general understanding. So, they can be changed without notices according to enginebuilder's modification and Licensor's latest design) 10.1) Bedplate and main bearing The bedplate is divided into sections of suitable size, in accordance with the production facilities available. It consists of high, welded, longitudinal girders and welded cross girders with cast steel bearing supports. For fitting to the engine seating, long, elastic holding down bolts tightened by hydraulic tools are to be used The bedplate is made without taper on its bottom sides based on epoxy chocks installation The oil pan, which is made of steel plate and is integrated in the bedplate, collects the return oil from the forced lubricating and cooling oil system. It is provided with a suitable number of drains with grating. The main bearings consist of thin walled steel shells lined with white metal. The bottom shell can, by means of special tools, and hydraulic tools for lifting the crankshaft, be rotated around and in. The shells are kept in position by a bearing cap and are secured by long elastic studs, with nuts tightened by hydraulic tools. 10.2) Thrust bearing The thrust bearing is of the B&W-Michell type, and consists, primarily, of a thrust collar on the crankshaft, a bearing support, and segments of steel with white metal. The thrust shaft is an integral part of the crankshaft. The propeller thrust is transferred through the thrust collar, the segments, and the bedplate to the engine seating and end chocks. The thrust bearing is lubricated by the engine's main lubricating oil system. 10.3) Turning wheel_and turning gear The turning wheel has cylindrical teeth and is fitted to the thrust shaft. The turning wheel is driven by a pinion on the terminal shaft of the turning gear, which is mounted on the bedplate. The turning gear is driven by an electric motor with built-in gear and brake. ---HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO., LTD.-—- PAGE : 20 of 29 DOG, NO. Al4=256482-5 The turning gear is provided with a blocking device that prevents the main engine from starting when the turning gear is engaged. Engagement and disengagement of the turing gear is effected manually by an axial movement of the pinion. 10.4) Frame box The frame box is of welded design, and is divided into sections of suitable size, determined by the production facilities available. On the exhaust side, it is provided with relief valves for each cylinder while, ‘on the camshaft side, it is provided with a large hinged door for each cylinder. The cylinder frame and the frame box are fixed to the bedplate with twin stay bolts. The stay bolts are made in one part and are tightened with hydraulic jacks 10.5) Cylinder frame, cylinder liner_and stuffing box The cylinder frame units are of cast iron with camshaft frame and together with the cylinder liners they form the scavenge air space. However, chain case to be of welded type. At the chain drive, the upper part of the chainwheel frame is fitted On the camshaft side of the engine, the cylinder frame units are provided with covers for cleaning the scavenging air space and for inspection of scavenge ports. A piston rod stuffing box for each cylinder unit is fitted at the bottom of the cylinder frame unit. The stuffing box is provided with sealing rings for scavenge air, and with oil scraper rings to prevent oil from entering the scavenge air space. The cylinder liner is made of alloyed cast iron and is mounted on the cylinder frame. The top of the cylinder liner is bore-cooled and, just below a short cooling jacket is fitted. The cylinder liner has scavenge ports and drilled holes for cylinder lubrication. 10.6) Cylinder_cover The cylinder cover is of forged or casted steel, made in one piece and has bores for cooling water. It has a central bore for the exhaust valve and bores for fuel valves, safety valve, starting valve and indicator valve. The cylinder cover is attached to the cylinder frame with 8 studs and nuts tightened by Multi-hydraulic jack tightening tool. ---HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO., LTO.-~ PAGE : 21 of 29 006. NO. A14-256482- 10.7) Exhaust valve and valve gear The exhaust valve consists of a valve housing and a valve spindle. The valve spindle is made of alloy steel. The valve housing is of cast iron and arranged for water cooling. The housing is provided with a bottom piece of steel with a flame hardened seat. The bottom piece is water cooled. The spindle is made of Nimonic. The housing is provided with a spindle guide. The exhaust valve is tightened to the cylinder cover with studs and nuts. The exhaust valve is opened hydraulically and closed by means of air pressure. In operation, the valve spindle slowly rotates, driven by the exhaust gas acting on small vanes fixed to the spindle. The hydraulic system consists of a piston pump mounted on the roller guide housing, a high-pressure pipe, and a working cylinder on the exhaust valve. The piston pump is activated by a cam on the camshaft. 10.8) Fuel valves, starting valve, safety valve and indicator valve Each cylinder cover is equipped with three fuel valves, one starting valve, one safety valve and one indicator valve. The opening of fuel valve is controlled by the fuel oil pressure created by the fuel pump, and the valve is closed by a spring. An automatic vent slide allows circulation of fuel oil through the valve and high pressure pipes, and prevents the combustion chamber from being filled up with fuel oil in the event that the valve spindle sticks when the engine is stopped. Oil from the vent slide and other drains is led away in a closed system. The starting valve is opened by control air from the starting air distributor and is closed by a spring. The safety valve is spring-loaded. The indicator valve is placed near the indicator gear. 10.9) Crankshaft The crankshaft is of the semi-built type, made from forged steel throws or, for some cylinder numbers, from cast steel throws with cold rolled fillets. The crankshaft is built integral with the thrust shaft and is, on the aft end, provided with a flange for the turning wheel and for coupling to the intermediate shaft. At the fore end, the crankshaft is provided with a flange for a counterweight and for a tuning wheel, in the event that these are to be installed. At4=256882-5 10.10) Axial vibration damper The engine is fitted with an axial vibration damper, which is mounted on the fore end of the crankshaft. The damper consists of a piston and a split-type housing located forward of the foremost main bearing. The piston is made as an integrated collar on the main journal, and the housing is fixed to the main bearing support. 10.11) Connecting rod The connecting rod is made of forged steel and provided with bearing caps for the crosshead and crankpin bearings. The crosshead and crankpin bearing caps are secured to the connecting rod with studs and nuts which are tightened by hydraulic jacks. The crosshead bearing consists of a set of thin-walled steel shells lined with white metal. The crosshead bearing cap is in one piece, with an angular cut-out for piston rod. The crankpin bearing is provided with thin-walled steel shells, lined with white metal, Lub. oil is supplied through ducts in the crosshead and connecting rod 10.12) Piston, piston rod _and crosshead The piston consists of piston crown and piston skirt. The piston crown is made of heat-resistant steel and has four ring grooves which are hard-chrome plated on both the upper and lower surfaces of the grooves. The piston crown is with "high topland", i.e. the distance between the piston top and the upper piston ring has been increased. The uppermost piston ring is CPR type(Controlled Pressure Relief) whereas the other three piston rings are with an oblique cut. The piston skirt is of cast iron. The piston rod is of forged steel and is surface-hardened on the running surface for the stuffing box. The piston rod is connected to the crosshead with hydraulically tightened studs. The piston rod has a central bore which, in conjunction with a cooling oil pipe, forms inlet and outlet for cooling oil to the piston. The crosshead is of forged steel and is provided with cast steel guide shoes with white metal on the running surface. A bracket for oil inlet from the telescopic pipe and another for oil outlet to a slotted pipe are mounted on the guide shoes. ---HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO., LTO.-~ 10 10. 10. 10. PAGE : 23 of 29 DOC. NO. Ar4-258482-5 13) Fuel pump and fuel oil high pressure pipe The engine is provided with one fuel pump for each cylinder. The fuel pump consists of a pump housing, a centrally placed pump barrel and a plunger. In order to prevent fuel oil from being mixed with the lubricating oil, the pump actuator is provided with a sealing arrangement. The pump is activated by the fuel cam, and the volume injected is controlled by turning the plunger by means of a toothed rack connected to the regulating mechanism. The fuel pumps incorporate Variable Injection Timing(VIT) for optimised fuel economy at part load. The VIT uses the governor fuel setting as the controlling parameter, The roller guide housing is provided with a semi-automatic lifting device which, during running of the engine, can lift the roller guide roller free of the cam. The fuel oil pump is provided with a puncture valve, which prevents high pressure from building up during normal stopping and shut down. The fuel oil high-pressure pipes are with flexible hose and are neither heated nor insulated 14) Camshaft and cams The camshaft consists of a number of sections. Each section consists of a shaft piece with exhaust cams, fuel cams, coupling parts and indicator drive. The exhaust cams and fuel cams are of steel, with a hardened roller race. They can be adjusted and dismantled hydraulically. 15) Chain drive The camshaft is driven from the crankshaft by a chain drive. The chain drive is provided with a chain tightener and guide bars to support the long lengths. 1.16) Reversing Reversing of the engine takes place by means of an angular displaceable roller in the driving mechanism for the fuel pump of each engine cylinder. The reversing mechanism is activated and controlled by compressed air supplied to the engine. The exhaust valve gear is not reversible. “HYUNDAI HEAVY INOUSTRIES CO., LTO.-~ PAGE : 24 of 29 DOC. NO. Al4=256482-5 10.17) Governor The engine is to be provided with an electronic governor. The speed setting of the actuator is determined by an electronic signal from the electronic governor based on the position of the main engine regulating handle. The actuator is connected to the fuel regulating shaft by means of a mechanical linkage. 10.18) Cylinder lubricator The Alpha lubrication system is designed to supply cylinder oil intermittently, e.g. every four, five, six, etc. engine revolutions, at a constant pressure and with electronically controlled timing and dosage at a defined position. HMI panel as well as ALCU is to be placed at E.C.R. and booster pump unit is to be placed at shipyard's hull side. 10.19) Gallery arrangement The engine is provided with gallery brackets, gratings, and stanchions. The brackets are placed at such a height that the best possible overhauling and inspection conditions are achieved. Some main pipes of the engine are suspended from the gallery brackets, and the upper gallery platform on the camshaft side is provided with overhauling holes for piston. The number of holes depends on the number of cylinders. 10.20) Scavenge air system The air intake to the turbocharger takes place direct from the engine room through the intake silencer of the turbocharger. From the turbocharger the air is led via the charging air pipe, air cooler and scavenging air receiver to the scavenge ports of the cylinder liners. The charging air pipe between turbocharger and air cooler is provided with a compensator and is heat insulated on the outside. =--HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO., LTD.—~: 10. 10.; 10. 10. PAGE_: 25 of 29 DOO, NO, Al4=256482-5 21) Exhaust turbocharger The turbochargers are arranged on the exhaust side of the engine. The turbocharger is delivered with electromagnetic tachometer. 22) Scavenge air cooler The engine is fitted with air cooler(s) divided in elements for cooling system The end covers are of coated cast iron The cleaning is to take place only when the engine is stopped, ‘A water mist catcher of the through-flow type is located in the air chamber after the air cooler. 23) Exhaust gas system From the exhaust valves the gas is led to the exhaust gas receiver where the fluctuating pressure from the individual cylinders is equalized, and the total volume of gas led further on to the turbocharger at a constant pressure. After the turbocharger, the gas is led to the external exhaust pipe system Compensators are fitted between the receiver and the exhaust valves, and between the receiver and the turbocharger. The exhaust gas receiver and exhaust pipes are provided with insulation, covered by galvanized steel plating. There is a protective grating between the exhaust gas receiver and the turbocharger. 24) Auxiliary blower The engine is provided with electrically-driven blowers. The suction side of blowers is connected to the scavenge air space after the air cooler. Between the air cooler and the scavenge air receiver, non-return valves are fitted which automatically close when the auxiliary blowers supply the air. The auxiliary blowers will start operating before the engine is started and will ensure sufficient scavenge air pressure to obtain a safe start. During operation of the engine, the auxiliary blowers will start automatically each time the engine load is reduced to about 30-40% and they will continue operating until the load again exceeds approximately 40-50%. In cases where one of the auxiliary blowers is out of service, the other auxiliary blower will automatically compensate without any manual readjustment of the valves, thus avoiding any engine load reduction. --HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO., LTD.~~: PAGE : 26 of 29 DOO, NO, Al4~256482-5 10.25) Piping arrangement (1) Lubrication and cooling oil system The pipes for the forced lubrication and cooling oil system are made of steel. The main forced lubrication is led to each main bearing through branches from the main lubrication pipe located along the engine. Cooling oil is led to the telescopic pipe through branches from the cooling oil main pipe located along the cooling jackets on the exhaust side of the engine, through which the oil is led to the crossheads. From there some of the oil is branched off for lubrication of the crosshead shoes and crosshead bearings and is led through the bored connecting rod to the crank bearing Some of the oil is led through a pipe in the bore of the piston rod for cooling of the piston. The oil return from here through the piston rod and further to a slotted pipe. (2) Cooling water system Cylinders and exhaust valves are cooled by fresh water. The fresh water is led from the main piping along the engine through branches to the cooling jacket of each cylinder. The water is led from the cooling jacket up through the cylinder cover and exhaust valve housing and from there to a manifold through which it is carried back to the fresh water cooler. The lubricating oil, fresh water and air coolers are cooled by means of fresh water. The fresh water pipes on the engine are of steel. 10.26) Starting air System The starting air system comprises a main starting valve, a non-return valve, a bursting disc for the branch pipe to each pipe, a starting air distributor, and a starting valve on each cylinder. The main starting valve is connected with the manoeuvring system, which controls the start of the engine. The starting air distributor regulates the supply of control air to the starting valves so that they supply the engine cylinders with starting air in the correct firing order. The starting air distributor has one set of starting cams for "Ahead" and ‘one set for “Astern", as well as one control valve for each cylinder. “HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO., LTD.~ Pi 7 of 29 DOS, NO. AI4-256452-5 10.27) Manoeuvring system The engine is provided with a pneumatic/electric manoeuvring and fuel oil regulating system. The system transmits orders from the separate manoeuvring console to the engine. The regulating system makes it possible to start, stop and reverse the engine and to control the engine speed. The speed control handle on the manoeuvring console gives a speed-setting signal to the govemor, dependent on the desired number of revolutions At a shut-down function, the fuel injection is stopped by activating the puncture valves in the fuel pumps, independent of the speed control handle's position. Reversing is effected by moving the speed control handle from "Stop" to "Start astern" position. Control air then moves the starting air distributor and, through an air cylinder, the displaceable roller in the driving mechanism for the fuel pump, to the "Astern” position. The engine is provided with a emergency control console. 10.28) Engine protecting system This system is designed to protect the main engine from the abnormal condition. It has such functions as emergency shut down and manual emergency stop. Regardless of manoeuvring position of the main engine, the emergency shutdown function is always effective. 10.29) Power take off (PTO) and turbo-compound system (TCS) In the standard design, the engine is not prepared for PTO and TCS. -HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO., LTO.-- PAGE : 28 of 29_ 000. NO, A14-256482-5 11. FUEL OIL AND LUBRICATING OIL 11.1) Fuel oil The engine is designed to operate with heavy fuel oil having a viscosity of up to 700 cSt at 50 Deg. C. (7000 sec. Redwood | at 100 Deg. F) 11.2) Lubricating oil (1) Circulating oil (Lubricating and cooling oil) The circulating oil(lubricating and cooling oil) must be rust and oxidation inhibited engine oil, of SAE 30 viscosity grade. In order to keep the crankcase and piston cooling space clean of deposits, the oils should have adequate dispersion and detergent properties. (2) Cylinder oil It is recommended that the use of cylinder oils of the SAE 50 viscosity gtade. During shop trial and sea trial, it is recommended the use of cylinder oil with a high detergency level. Using a "Total Base Number (BN)" of 70 as a 70 BN oil will be normally give good results. Use higher BN oils in the event of high sulphur content in the fuel oil. Note : Some high alkaline cylinder oils are compatible with - Certain low sulphur fuels having poor combustion properties. - Some diesel oils. Such incompatibility may be indicated by poor cylinder condition during scavenge air port inspection. In such cases, change to a lower BN cylinder oil. (3) Turbocharger oil Common (forced L.O. system branched from main L.O. system) oil feed is applied for the turbocharger. 12.
