Mount Bromo
Indonesia is located on the Ring of Fire which means an area with some of the most active
volcanoes in the world. Many of Indonesia’s volcanoes, such as Mount Merapi, are famous
for the violent eruptions and their stunning yet dangerous beauty.
Mount Bromo is among the best-known volcanoes in Indonesia, largely thanks to its
incredible view especially when it’s seen by standing over the caldera at sunrise. Bromo’s
peak was blown off in an eruption so you can still see white smokes spewing from the top of
the mountain.
The volcano is part of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java, which is also
includes Mount Semeru that has the highest peak in Java. The park is home to the Tengger
people, isolated ethnic group who trace their ancestry back to the ancient Majapahit
Empire.

Kediri
Kediri is a name of a town. It is situated in a valley between the Kelud and Willis mountains
and inhabited by about 1.3 million people. In the centre of the town there is a large hill
which is called the Dathok Mountain. Because of the topography of the region, Kediri is
called a chilly town by the locals. There is a big river called Brantas cutting off the centre of
the town.
Beside the temples, Kediri is also famous for its products like cigarettes and a special kind of
tofu or bean curd. This highly nutritious food is delicacy of Kediri and has a distinctive taste.
The cigarettes factory dominates the town economy and employs the majority of the
women labor force. Kediri and the cigarettes factory are inseparable and it is considered the
biggest cigarette factory in Indonesia. Most of the local people work in this factory. Those

Bandung as Sea of Fire was a fire that occurred in the city of Bandung on March 24, 1946.
Within seven hours, about 200,000 residents of Bandung burned their homes.
British troops as part of the Brigade MacDonald arrived in Bandung on October 12, 1945.
Bandung was deliberately burned by TRI and local people. There were black smoke billowing
high into the air everywhere. The British Army began to attack so fierce. The greatest battle
happened in the Village name Dayeuh Kolot, in South Bandung, where there were a large
ammunition depot belonging to British. In this battle, Barisan Rakyat Indonesia destroyed
the ammunition depot.
The strategy to fire Bandung was considered because the power of TRI and people’s militia
was not comparable to the British forces and NICA. This incident inspired to create the
famous song “Halo Halo Bandung”. To remember what they did and struggled, they built the
Bandung Lautan Api monument.
