Approximately triangular shape

4.0 General procedure:

1. The stud welding work shall comply with Section 7 of AWS D1.1: 2006 - Structural
welding code - Steel

2. Prior to welding, all studs shall be free from rust, scale, oil, moisture etc., and the
stud base shall not be painted, galvanized or electroplated.

3. Welded area which the studs are to be welded shall be free from dust, scale, oil and
paint, moisture etc.,

4. Ferrules or arc shields shall be kept dry.

5. Before production welding with a particular set-up and with a given size and type of
stud, and at the beginning of each day production, testing shall be performed on the
first two studs by bending 30O from their original axis

6. The visual examination of those two studs do not exhibit 360 O flash or if on testing
failure occurs in the weld zone of either stud, the procedure shall be corrected and
two more studs shall be welded and tested. The testing shall be continued until it
found satisfactory.

7. The same set-up and to be continued for actual production, if any changes in set-up
the same process of testing to be performed again.

8. In case of, some studs on which a 360º flash is not obtained, at the option is repaired
by adding minimum fillet weld as in place of the missing flash.

9. Remove slag by light hammering, wire brushing or other means that do not deform
the surface of the weld and do not straighten any tested studs.

10. The visual inspection shall be carried out on all the production stud weld. If a visual
inspection reveals any stud that does not show a full 360 O flash or any stud that has
been repaired by welding, such studs shall be bent to an angle approximately 15 O
from its original axis.
