1. Overview
1.1 Scope of application
NSR-3652 series of synchronizer device is divided into three types: NSR-3652A automatic
synchronizer device, NSR-3652M manual synchronizer device and NSR-3652S synchronous
switching device.
NSR-3652A automatic synchronizer device is used for automatic synchronizing parallel of
generator or circuit. The device can automatically identify the property of synchronizing parallel,
thus realizing the parallel of difference frequency and no-voltage closing of the generator, and the
parallel of difference frequency, same frequency and no-voltage closing of the circuit. When
parallel difference frequency, the device can reliably capture the first time of parallel, and
accurately complete closing when the phase difference is zero to really realize parallel without
impact.
NSR-3652M manual synchronizer can adopt synchronoscope for manual synchronizing
parallel of generator or circuit.
NSR-3652S synchronous switching device is used for the condition that several
synchronizing points realize integrated synchronizer parallel. The input, output signal of each
synchronizing point is switched to synchronizing device according to NSR-3652S device.
NSR-3652 series of synchronizer device is available for units that carry out separate or
centralized operation of parallel of circuit or the generator. The separate control is used for that
one synchronizing point corresponds to one automatic NSR-3652A or manual synchronizer
NSR-3652M; the centralized control is used for that several synchronizing points correspond to
one automatic NSR-3652A or manual synchronizer NSR-3652M, and AC voltage that is on both
sides of the controlled synchronizing point,closing position of circuit breaker,PT breakage,and
speed and voltage regulation of synchronizer device, the closing instruction are switched to
synchronizing busbar through NSR-3652S synchronous switching device. Automatic and manual
synchronizer collect parallel operation signal that is related to the current synchronizing point
directly from synchronizing busbar, realizing the synchronization operation of each synchronizing
point.
NSR-3652A automatic synchronizer device can at most implement centralized control of
automatic synchronization of ten synchronizing points, and each rated value has one
corresponding synchronizing condition.

3. Principle of operation
3.1 NSR-3652A principle
3.1.1 Parameter definition

Voltage difference( du )= Voltage of the side that is to be paralleled( U x )- System voltage

( U s ), and convert to the side that is to be paralleled according to the setting value

Angular phase difference( d )= Angular phase of the side that is to be paralleled(Фx )-

System angular phase(Фs )

Frequency difference( dFr )= Frequency of the side that is to be paralleled( Fr x )- System

frequency( Fr s )

d(dFr )
Slip of frequency difference=
dt

Device will make real-time calculation of the above parameters

3.1.2 Quasi-synchronization
After the startup, and when there are voltage and effective frequency on both sides of
paralleled points, and du and dFr are in the allowable range, only when send the closing pulse
2
d(dFr ) tdq
after detecting the phase difference dФ = 2  [dFr  tdq +  ]
dt 2 ,

namely the leading time t=tdq operation time of the closing circuit) can quickly realize parallel.

For synchronizer of the generator, it can realize the automatic tracking of frequency and
voltage by controlling the automatic frequency and voltage regulation device of the unit that is to
be paralleled, thus make du and dFr quickly into the allowable range of the quasi-synchronization,
and even when with the same frequency and different phase, it can automatically choose the
control scheme to shorten parallel process.

3.1.3 Closing with the same frequency

When the frequency difference dFr is less than 0.05Hz, it can be deemed as closing with the
same frequency. During the reset time, if du and d are into the appointed range, send the
closing order at once and send corresponding signal; if du and d are not into the appointed

8 NARI Technology Development Co., Ltd.

range, end the synchronization process and send the signal of synchronization failure.

3.1.4 Closing without voltage

No voltage refers to that the amplitude of voltage is less than the threshold of no voltage and
the requirements of closing without voltage are as follows:

⚫ After the startup of synchronization, there is no voltage and put the control word” closing
without voltage” to “1”, and has no PT breakage alarm event;

⚫ If U x or U s has no voltage, then close the device.

3.1.5 Equal frequency and voltage

After the startup of synchronization, if voltage or frequency doesn’t meet the condition of
closing, then it can have automatic equal frequency and voltage function. It adopts variable
parameter regulation, and the mathematic model of their unification is

P n = k p  n (1)

In the equation: p n is the pulse width of equal frequency and voltage, and it will send

negative pulse when p n is larger than zero, and it will send positive pulse when p n is smaller

than zero; k p is accommodation coefficient of equal frequency and voltage; n is voltage

difference or frequency difference at n moment.

When apply the model, the range of parameter values and units of equal frequency and
voltage are described as follows:

1. Equal frequency

The control word ”automatic frequency regulation in and out ” will determine the in and out of
this function. When the control word is”1”, and it’s closing with same frequency after the startup,
send “speed up” pulse, and at this time the width of equal frequency pulse is the setting
value ”same frequency pulse width ”; if it is closing with frequency difference and the frequency
difference doesn’t meet the condition, calculate equal frequency pulse according to equation (1),
and the parameter declaration is as follows:

The value of equal frequency accommodation coefficient k p is 0~80;

n is frequency difference dFr , the unit of which is 0.1Hz;

The unit of equal frequency pulse width p n is 10ms;

The minimum width of FM pulse is: when the frequency difference is 0.1 Hz, it can send 10ms
positive or negative pulse.

NARI Technology Development Co., Ltd. 9

2. Equal voltage

The control character ”automatic voltage regulation in and out ” will determine the in and out
of this function. When the control word is”1”, if the voltage difference doesn’t meet the condition
after startup, calculate equal voltage pulse according to equation (1), and the parameter
declaration is as follows:

The value of equal voltage accommodation coefficient k p is 0~80;

n is voltage difference, and its value is 1V. when the control word ”the parallel type of
synchronous point” is “1”, the side that is to be paralleled is the generator and need to judge
overvoltage, and at this moment if it’s judged to have overvoltage, n will be the differential value
of the voltage of the side that is to be paralleled and the rated voltage of this side; under other conditions,

n = the voltage of the side that is to be paralleled( U x )-system voltage( U s ).

The value of equal voltage width p n is 10ms;

The minimum width of voltage regulation pulse is: when the voltage difference is 0.1 Hz, it can
send 10ms positive or negative pulse.

3.1.6 Synchronous blocking

Synchronous blocking conditions are shown in the following table. When PT disconnects or
abnormally select synchronous points, it won’t enter synchronous startup logic. Other elements
that are the closing failure reasons will be shown when it can’t close within the reset time.
Synchronous blocking condition
Name The meaning of Synchronous blocking condition
PT failure When cast PT failure to inspect, the negative-sequence voltage of the side that is to be
paralleled is more than 8V.
abnormally select synchronous Simultaneously select more than or less than one synchronous point.
points
No voltage failure In the state of no voltage, Ux and Ur are more than the “threshold to judge no voltage”
du failure When closing with same or different frequency, ∣Voltage difference∣> “allowable
voltage difference”
dfr failure When closing with different frequency, ∣ frequency difference ∣ > “allowable
frequency difference”
df/dt failure When closing with different frequency, ∣slip of frequency difference∣> “blocking

45Hz or more than 55 Hz
M Over Voltage Terminal voltage of the generator is above “Overvoltage value of the generator”

10 NARI Technology Development Co., Ltd.

3.1.7 Operation time test of closing circuit
NSR-3652A offers the operation time test function of closing circuit of circuit breaker.
Operation time test of closing circuit refers to the time that the synchronous device sends closing
order till circuit breaker closes. When carry out this time test, circuit breaker closes is that
synchronous device detects closing. The test result of operation time test of closing circuit is for
reference only.
After the device completes quasi-synchronization, can enter the device menu” device
condition -> measuring value -> protect measurement” to see the corresponding real time value”
T_CB_closing” of the current channel.

3.2 NSR-3652S Principle

NSR-3652S device adopts 6U, 1/3 layer case that can configure several switching plug-ins,
and each switching plug-in has one corresponding synchronous point. Through remote control
and local methods can start switching plug-in to select synchronous point, and each time can only
select one synchronous point. One NSR-3652S can select five synchronous points.

3.3 Measurement and control function

1. NSR-3652A remote signaling mainly include: remote signaling collection, synthesis of double
points, and make record of sequence.

2. The remote control function of NSR-3652A can choose synchronous point by remote control.

3.4 Directions for coordinate use of synchronizer device

NSR-3652 series device can be coordinately used to achieve maximum benefit. The
coordinate use of one NSR-3652A and NSR-3652S can achieve automatic synchronizer of ten
channels (circuit or generator); the coordinate use ofone NSR-3652M and one NSR-3652S can
achieve manual synchronizer of ten channels (circuit or generator); the coordinate use of one
NSR-3652A, manual synchronizer and one NSR-3652S can realize manual or automatic
synchronizer of ten channels. Please refer to the content of chapter 8.12 for entire screen
debugging.

3 EN_AFM Automatic frequency modulation input and exit 0,1

4 EN_AV Automatic Voltage regulation input and exit 0,1

5 EN_PT_FAILURE Enable check PT failure 0,1

Numeric type setting value explanation:

1. PT secondary rated voltage of the side that is to be paralleled: it is PT secondary rated voltage of the
system side that is to be paralleled;
2. PT secondary rated voltage of the system: it is PT secondary rated voltage of the system;
3. The threshold of judging no voltage: when judge no voltage closing and check the setting value of the
voltage, then it will be the percentage of rated voltage, and when the voltage is less than this setting value, it
will be no voltage;
4. The threshold of judging voltage: the setting value of voltage when carry out same frequency or different
frequency closing is the percentage of rated voltage, and when the voltage exceeds this setting value, it will
be voltage;
5. Voltage value of the generator: when the control character” parallel type of synchronous point ” is 1, it
means the side that is to be paralleled is the generator and it needs to check over voltage, and if voltage of
the side that is to be paralleled is more than the setting value, then the generator will be over voltage.
6. Allowable voltage difference: it refers to allowable voltage difference blocking value of the side that is to be
paralleled and the system when carry out voltage difference closing, and the voltage of the side that is to be
paralleled can be more than the voltage of the system, or it can be less than the system frequency;
7. Angular phase value of the system exceeds the side that is to be paralleled: when it is used for
calculating angular phase value, it will compensate for angular phase value of the system exceeds the side
that is to be paralleled which is caused by wiring or other reasons;
8. Operation time of closing circuit: it refers to the time from sending closing pulse to closing circuit breaker,
and the unit is ms. The device has the function of making real-time calculation of the closing time of circuit
breaker(from sending closing pulse to collect TWJ), and each time after completing closing, can see the
real-time value “T_CB_closing” of closing time of the current channel from the menu” device state->
measured value-> protecting measurement”, and the value is only to be the reference of the setting value of
“closing circuit operation time”;
9. Allowable frequency difference: it refers to allowable frequency difference blocking value of the side that is
to be paralleled and the system when carry out frequency difference closing, and the frequency of the side
that is to be paralleled can be more than the frequency of the system, or it can be less than the system
frequency;
10. Allowable closing angular phase value: it refers to the allowable closing angular phase value of the side
that is to be paralleled and the system when carry out same frequency closing;
11. Setting value of frequency difference slip blocking: it refers to the blocking setting value of the change
rate of frequency difference of the side that is to be paralleled and the system;
12. Reset time after starting the synchronization: the maximum time from starting the synchronization to reset,
and the unit is s. if it doesn’t meet the closing condition after this time, the device will reset the whole
synchronization process;

NARI Technology Development Co., Ltd. 21

13. Same frequency FM pulse width: if the angular phase doesn’t meet the condition when carry out same
frequency closing, then it will send “accelerating” order, and the setting value will be the width of accelerating
pulse;
14. Proportional coefficient of frequency sharing control: the coefficient to calculate pulse width when the
frequency difference doesn’t meet the condition when carry out frequency difference closing;
15. FM pulse interval: the interval of the pulse that is sent when modulate the frequency;
16. Proportional coefficient of voltage sharing control: the coefficient to calculate voltage regulation pulse
width when use voltage sharing function;
17. Voltage regulation interval: the interval of the pulse that is sent when regulating the voltage.

Setting value explanation of control character:

1. Parallel type of synchronous point:”1” refers to that the side that is to be paralleled is the generator and it
needs to check over voltage; ”0” refers to do nothing;
2. No-voltage closing input: ”1” refers to that the device will check no voltage closing; ”0” refers to that
carry out different frequency or same frequency closing judgment after starting the device;
3. Automatic frequency modulation input and exit: ”1” refers to that the device will automatically
modulate the frequency; ”0” refers to no modulation;
4. Automatic voltage regulation input and exit: ”1” refers to that the device will automatically regulate
the voltage and ”0” refers to no regulation.
5. Enable check PT failure: ”1” refers to that the device will check whether PT has a breakage or not
and ”0” refers to no test.
