For this project, you will be creating designs using a compass and a straight edge. Because of the nature
of the activity, your design may look similar to your classmates’ designs, and that is fine. However, to
ensure that you are producing your own work, you will be creating a video and narrating your steps.
Materials needed: Straight edge, compass, pencil, markers or other coloring tools, large paper

Notes:
This project is meant to be completed on your own, but feel free to ask your classmates about
construction methods they feel lead to a more creative design. Just be careful not to copy each
other’s work.
Please try to be creative with your design. For example, if one of your design looks more like a
flower, try to incorporate more straight lines into your second design.
When narrating, be detailed in your directions, such as mentioning if you are bisecting a line
segment or where you placed your compass and how far to trace.
Do not incorporate steps where you are not using a compass or straightedge. If you do, the
construction is no longer accurate. No free handing will be allowed.
In my experience, a larger construction is easier to replicate and more accurate.
