“Second Chances Do Happen”

Laura Molina is a lively YouTube vlogger who is trying to find herself by traveling alone to
Siargao after dumping publicly the proposal of her long- time boyfriend, Mikey. Meanwhile,
Diego (aka Jigs) Punzalan was the charismatic popular rock band member who recently had a
fight with his band members is also flying back to his home, which is the Siargao. After a not so
nice start in the plane, Diego and Laura became friends as they converse with each other while
hopping into various resorts and parties around the island. The third major character in the
movie is Abi, the ‘what-could-have-been’ of Jigs and Jigs is the ‘T.O.T.G.A.’ of Abi. They had a
past 5 years ago and according to some locals they were the “love team ng bayan pero hindi
nagkakatagpo”.

Jericho Rosales portrayed his character well as Jigs who is cool and carefree, looking very
handsome and charming not just in surfing or riding his motorbike but also while singing and
playing his guitar. Rosales delivered well the emotional struggles of his character and did not
fail the audience when it comes to dramatic scenes. Erich Gonzales is the high-spirited Laura
who can really engage the viewers to visit Siargao. Her role appearance may seem lightweight
however the pain in her eyes really showed as she acted the struggles of Laura. Jasmine Curtis-
Smith is the simple yet pretty island girl, who is very relatable as she portrayed effectively the
role of Abi who is yearning for something she thought she could never have.

The setting of the movie is Siargao Island, no doubt it is breathtakingly wonderful place to surf
and the waves of the ocean is really worth to visit. Although the self-reflection through
traveling theme is not that new, the movie left a very remarkable metaphor that surfing has the
same vibe of life. We wait for the wave, we catch it, we stand, we ride, we crash, and then we
resurface to try again. As long as we’re breathing, it means we are alive and it is still not too late
to fix everything so don’t lose hope. Own up your mistakes and make decisions, because there
is always a second chance. And that is the reason why this movie is quoted as “Siargao, a
beautiful reminder of second chances” because second chances did happen in this place.
