can be successful in their future professional lives through achieving work-related skills
such as persistence, problem-solving, and the ability to work with others to accomplish
a goal (Kearney & Graczyk, 2014). It is seen that students who attend school regularly

differentiate to what extent these factors that absenteeism affect students acadamic
performance.
Conceptual Framework
output
This study deals with the effects of absenteeism in the academic performance of
grade 11 ABM students of ACLC, Antipolo during the school year 2019-2020. The study
was focused on the Grade 11 ABM Senior High students of ACLC in Antipolo City who
are being attempted to not attend in class due to some reasons that affects their
academic performance.
Definition of terms
For better understanding of the footings used in the study, these were defined

ACLC -is an abbreviation of Ama Computer Learning Center and the ACLC in
learning environments for the teaching of students (or "pupils") under the direction of
teachers.

attend school students who do not attend school will generally fall behind their
classmates in their academic success (Ford & Sutphen,1996) they have fewer
opportunity to learn the materials that will help them to succeed (Epstein & Sheldon ,
2002) the focus of student absenteeism ranges from early schooling until adolescent
years (Ford &Sutphen 1996). Based on research of (Marburger,2001) states that the
students who come to class uncomfortable and the lecturer irritable. Absenteeism
disturbs the dynamic teachinglearning environment and adversely affects the overall
educational resources, time and human potential. Student absenteeism also causes
rework and wasted time for lecturers (Lalek , 1995 &Rumburger 1997). According to
(Park and Kerr 1990, Romer 1993, and Foltz 1996, Marburger 2001) it is widely
recognized that absenteeism can negatively impact grades in economics courses and
that high attendance rates can improve student performance in variety of classroom
settings (Sheets et al. 1995, Johnston and James, 2000). According of study by

occurs when a student is absent without reason 20% or more of school time: - this

student may fail and will cause him or her repeat the same year level. Students who
have spent time attending lectures or classes have a significant, positive effect on
students’ performance. Students that participated exhibits higher grades and scores in
examinations that the student. To prevent and correct serious attendance problems,

study was to investigate the extent of student absenteeism in selected areas. Explore
the reasons why student absent themselves from classes and examine the implications
of student absenteeism. The study adopted the mixed methodology and used a survey
research design as the operational framework for data gathering. Data were collected
by self-administered questionnaires and interviews with the chosen students. The study
revealed that student absenteeism is rampant in the schools under study due to
reasons such as: lack of subject interest, poor teaching strategies by teachers,
unfavorable learning environment, too much socialization, and poor relations with the
teachers. The study also found an inverse relationship between student absenteeism
and course performance. According (DonkaMirthecva, 2009) some studies show that
student’s attendance or absenteeism is closely linked with good students health thus
Moonie, Sterling, Figgs and Castro, 2008) have identified chronic absenteeism as a
persistent problem related to poor academic performances and potential behavioral and

also be applied to the way parents pass on their values and expectations relatives to
schooling and education. The attitude a student’s parents have toward truancy plays an
important role in the extent to which truant behavior persists. High rates of unexcused

extent to which students learn. Recent studies show students who are chronically
absent are involved with the following disruptive classroom behavior in the current
percentiles;29% are bullies, bullied 19%.Have disrespect for teachers,19% are afflicted
with gangs, and 13% are verbally abuse teachers (Reimer& Sminh,2005) see school

Methodology
These chapter presents the research design procedure the subject of the
study, determination of sampling, research instruments and statistical treatment of data.
Research Design
The respondent in this study were all the Grade 11 ABM Students of Senior High
School in ACLC Antipolo in the school year 2019-2020.
Determination of Sampling
The population can serve as a sample for a study (Johnson & Chistensen, 2000:150).
Grade 11 ABM Students in Aclc, Antipolo were included in this study, which means that
they are the respondents. The purpose was to investigate the effects of absenteeism in
the academic performance of the student. Their views would indicate which aspect
needed to be improved.
Research Instrument
After completion of an in-depth literature study, a questionnaire was designed, keeping
the research objectives in mind. A questionnaire is a printed self-report form designed to
elicit information that can be obtained through the written responses of the subject
(Burns & Grove 1993:777). The items were derived from the literature review and were
in line with the conceptual framework. In this study respondents had to indicate their
level of agreement with each item by responding with the “YES” or “NO” options.
Respondents responded to the closed-ended items by indicating their responses with a
“✔”.
Frequency distributions were used to organize data, to give meaning to the response
rates and facilitate insight. In the relevant tables the frequency distributions of
responses are ordered in order of occurrence from the highest to the lowest
percentages obtained on the responses “YES” and “NO” of agreement on items. If
responses “YES”, reached 75% or more, it was regarded to be indicative of an
important reason for absenteeism.
CHAPTER 4
Analysis of data
Is the distance of home of the student to school is a reason to not attend in class?
• Out of 50 students, 38 or 76% respondents are voted yes. It means that, this is
one factor/reason that affects students not attend in class and affects their academic
performance.
• Out of 50 students, 26 or 52% respondents are voted yes. It means that, this is
not one factor/reason that affects students not attend in class and not affects their
academic performance.
• Out of 50 students, 28 or 56% respondents are voted yes. It means that, this is
not one factor/reason that affects students not attend in class and not affects their
academic performance.
• Out of 50 students, 29 or 58% respondents are voted yes. It means that, this is
not one factor/reason that affects students not attend in class and not affects their
academic performance.
• Out of 50 students, 20 or 40% respondents are voted yes. It means that, this is
not one factor/reason that affects students not attend in class and not affects their
academic performance.
• Out of 50 students, 24 or 48% respondents are voted yes. It means that, this is
not one factor/reason that affects students not attend in class and not affects their
academic performance.
• Out of 50 students, 31 or 62% respondents are voted yes. It means that, this is
not one factor/reason that affects students not attend in class and not affects their
academic performance.
Interpretation of Data
The Interpretation of data were distinguish, three question reached 75% or more, It
means that, three factor/reason affects student not attend in class so that, their
academic performance was affected also.
CHAPTER 5
Summary of finding, Conclusion and Recommendation
Summary of findings
This was conducted for the purpose of determining the effects of absenteeism in the
academic performance of grade 11 ABM students of Ama Computer Learning Center,
Antipolo. The descriptive method is used of research was utilized and the nominative
survey technique was used for gathering data. The questionnaire serve as the
instrument for collecting data. All 50 students are respondent. The inquiry was
conducted the school year 2019-2020.
Conclusion
Students affect their academic performance by not attend in class by three reason, the
distance from home to school, financial problem and working of the student.
