Learning priority: Explore new ideas and experiences

with confidence.
Khaled, I have noticed that you love to explore variety
of learning experiences at An-Nur childcare. The
other day when you found the wooden shape sorter
you were eager to have a go with it. You sat with your
friend Rowaa who was watching you with interest.
This is one of our favourite shape sorter activity. It is a
small equipment but has enormous capability to
educate children.
Khaled, you took all the shapes out of the board and
then started to put those back. I was observing you, a
few minutes later I came over with the intention of
finding out if you knew the names of the shapes and
the colours. Khaled, you are a very clever boy, you
know all the names of the shapes and colours in
Arabic, which I have to learn from you. I encouraged
you to learn the names of the colours and shapes in
English.
There were four different colours and four different
shapes. You worked hard to put all those pieces back
in its correct place. For instance all the different
coloured circles will fit in one stick as it has only one
hole, rectangles has two holes, triangles has 3 holes,
will fit in 3 sticks etc. Once you made a mistake but
soon realized that and fixed it. Khaled you not only
repeated many times you even created beautiful
design on the table. How creative you are! When you
have had enough you gave Rowwa to have a turn.
Learning happening
Through this experience Khaled was learning:
The names of shapes
Names of the colours
Developing Hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor
skills
 To be independent and creative.
Developing social skills as taking turns with Rowaa.
What’s next?
Khaled, in sha Allah we will ensure that you get plenty
of opportunities to explore further and improve your
knowledge about shapes and colours.
