Measurements:

Sweater: Width all round at underarm, 23in.; length, 12in.; sleeve seam, 9 ½in.
Leggings: Length down centre front seam. 8 ½in.
Cap: To fit average head.

Yarn: Patons Patonyle 3-ply Knitting Yarn (m.c.) and Patons Big Ben Crepe (c.c.)
Sweater: 3 balls (m.c.), 3 balls (c.c.)
Leggings: 5 balls (m.c.)
Cap: 2 balls (m.c.), 1 ball (c.c.)
Mittens: 1 ball main (m.c.)

Needles: No. 3, 5, and 13 knitting needles, crochet hook:

3 buttons

Elastic for waist.

Gauge:
30 sts. = 10 cm over st-st
32 sts. = 10 cm over patt.

LEGGINGS

RIGHT LEG

With m.c. and No. 5 needles, cast on 50 sts. and work 2 rows in k 1, p 1 rib.

Next Row: K l, * w.fwd., rib 2 tog., rib 3, rep. from * to last 4 sts., w.fwd., rib 2 tog., rib 2.

Work 5 rows in rib. Change to No. 3 needles and work 2 rows in st-st. Shape back thus:

1st Row: K 13, turn.

2nd Row: P to end.

3rd Row: K 26, turn

4th Row: As 2nd row.

5th Row: K 39, turn.

6th Row: As 2nd row.

Cont, in st-st. over all sts., inc. 1 st. each end of 5th and every foll. 6th row until 58 sts. on
needle. Cont, until short side, front seam, measures 8 ½in., ending on p row.

To Shape Leg: Dec. 1 st. each end of next and every foll. 4th row until 44 sts remain.
Cont, until leg seam measures 9in., ending on k row.
Next Row: P 2. * p 2 tog., rep. from * to last 2 sts., p 2 (24 sts.).

Change to No. 5 needles and work in k 1, p 1 rib for 2in. Cast off in rib.

LEFT LEG

Work to correspond with right leg in reverse.

TO MAKE UP

Using small backstitch join front, back and leg seams, flat seam ribbing.
Thread elastic through holes at waist.

SWEATER

BACK

With cc. and No. 5 needles, cast on 50 sts. and work in k 1, p 1 rib for 2 rows

Join m.c., k 1 row, then work 3 rows in k l, p l rib. Change to No. 3 needles and proceed in
patt, as follows:

1st Row: (cc.) Knit.

** 2nd Row: (cc.) Purl.

3rd Row: (m.c.) * K 2, slip 1 purlwise, rep. from * to last 2 sts., k 2.

4th Row: (m.c.) P 1, * p 1, slip 2 purlwise, rep from * to last st., p 1.

5th Row: (cc.) K 1, * sl 1 purlwise, k 2, rep from * to last st., k l.**

Rep from ** to ** until work measures 7in., ending with right side facing.

To Shape Armholes: Cast off 4 sts. at beg. of next rows, then dec. 1 st. each end of next and
every alt. row until 38 sts. remain.

Cont until back measures 12in.

To Shape Shoulders: Cast off 5 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows, 6 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows.
Cast of remaining 16 sts.
FRONT

Work as back until front measures l0in., ending with right side facing.

To Shape Neck: Patt. 15 sts., cast off 8 sts., patt to end of row. Cont on last 15 sts., dec. 1 st.
at neck edge in every row until 11 sts. remain.

When armhole measures same as back armhole, shape shoulder. Cast off in next and alt rows,
5 sts. once, 6 sts. once. Fasten off. Return to rem. sts. Join wool at neck edge, work other side
to correspond.

SLEEVES

With c.c. and No. 5 needles, cast on 26 sts. Work 2 rows in k 1, p 1 rib. With m.c., k next
row, then work 3 rows in k 1, p 1 rib.

Change to No. 3 needles and cont, in patt, as given from ** to ** for back, inc. 1 st. each end
of needle in 5th and every foll. 8th row until there are 36 sts. Cont until sleeve measures
9 ½in., ending with right side facing.

To Shape Top: Cast off 2 sts. at beg. of next 8 rows, 3 sts. at beg. of next 4 rows.
Cast off remaining 8 sts.

NECKBAND

Using small backstitch, join right shoulder seam. With right side of work facing, using c.c.
and No. 5 needles, pick up and knit 48 sts. evenly round neck edge. With m.c, p 1 row and
work 3 rows in k 1, p 1 rib. With cc, p 1 row, then work 1 row in rib. Cast off ribwise.

TO MAKE UP

Join left shoulder seam for ¾in. Backstitch side and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. Using m.c.
and crochet hook, work 1 row double crochet along shoulder opening and neckband, working
3 bh loops on front, 2 on shoulder, 1 on neckband. Sew on buttons to correspond with loops.

CAP

With cc. and No. 5 needles, cast on 68 sts. and work 1 row in k 1, p 1 rib. With m.c., p 1 row,
then work in k 1, p 1 rib for 2iin., ending with wrong side facing. Change to 3 needles and
cont, in patt, as from **' to ** for back for 5in.

Next Row: K 1, * k 3 tog., rep. from * to end of row.

Break yarn, thread through rem. sts., draw up and fasten off securely.

TO MAKE UP

Join seam and press. Fold ribbing in half to outside. Make pompon of m.c. and sew to top.
MITTENS

Right Mitten

** With mc. and No. 13 needles, cast on 40 sts. and work 20 rows in k 1, p 1 rib.

Cont, in st-st. for 16 rows, beg. and ending p row with k l. **

Thumb: 1st Row: K 27, turn, cast on 4 sts.

2nd Row: K 1, p 10, turn, cast on 3 sts.

*** 3rd Row: K 14.

4th Row: K 1, p 12, k 1.

Rep. 3rd and 4th rows 7 times.

Next Row: (K 2 tog.) 7 times.

Break yarn and run end through rem. sts., draw up and fasten off securely; flat seam thumb
seam. With right side facing, join yarn and k up 7 sts. at base of thumb, k across rem. sts.,
thus working all 40 sts. on to one needle.

1st Row: K 1, p 38, k 1.

2nd Row: Knit.

Rep. 1st and 2nd rows 10 times, then 1st row once. Proceed as follows:

1st Row: (K 2 tog. through back of loop, k 16, k 2 tog.) twice.

2nd and Alt. Rows: K 1, p to last st., k 1.

3rd Row: (K 2 tog. t.b.l., k 14, k 2 tog.) twice.

5th Row: (K 2 tog. t.b.l., k 1.2, k 2 tog.) twice.

7th Row: (K 2 tog. t.b.l., k 10, k 2 tog.)

9th Row: (K 2 tog. t.b.l., k 8, k 2 tog.) twice.

11th Row: (K 2 tog. t.b.l., k 6, k 2 tog.)

13th Row: (K 2 tog. t.b.l., k 4, k 2 tog.) twice.

Divide remaining sts. evenly on 2 needles. Break yarn and graft these sts. ***
Left Mitten

Work as right mitten from ** to **. Proceed thus:

Thumb-1st Row: K 20, turn, cast on 3 sts.

2nd Row: K 1, p 9, turn, cast on 4 sts. Work as right mitten from *** to ***.

TO MAKE UP

Using a flat seam, join side seams.
