Mr. Antó nio Guterres

Secretary General
United Nations (ONU)
405 East 42nd Street,
New York, N.Y., 10017, USA

Dear Mr. António Guterres

I want to open with you a discussion about modern technology and its implications for the
environment. I consider that mobile phones, laptops, desktop computers, batteries and all kinds of
physical technologies are made with elements such as copper, iron, zinc, aluminum and coltan.

All elements of metallic raw materials are sold by mining industries, which cause great damage to
the ecosystem, causing land degradation, shortage of natural resources and environmental
pollution.

These mining industries are mostly found in developing countries and failed states, having with
them the exploitation of children and appalling working conditions. I believe that these situations
lead to extreme poverty.

The increasing levels of technology consumption force us quickly to take climate policy measures, it
is necessary to implement policies with the support of the United Nations (ONU), to be able to stop
these exploitations and initiate investigations of new resources with which technological devices
can be manufactured. .

I recommend that companies with higher sales and higher percentage of pollution start an
ecological technology plan, where new alternatives are sought to be able to extract resources for
the manufacture of technological elements, without polluting the environment, taking advantage of
recycled resources for production.

I would like people and companies to take better care of the planet, and thus have more resources
to enjoy.

Sincerely,
Jorge Luis Sarmiento Guevara
