This unit has given me new insightful knowledge on important developmental issues for

adolescence. These are biological issues, social issues and psychological issues. The

biopsychosocial approach is for me the unit most important term, as it connects the singular

issues, into a broader frame. This is important for me as originally, I assumed that a

biological issue such as late maturation, had no link to a social issue. However, I now know

that these issues can be linked showing the complexity a teacher might face in their practice.

The unit has also given me new understanding on the adolescence mind. This new

understanding stem from hot and cold cognition. I now know that adolescence decision

making competence can be swayed depending on the adolescence contexts. In relation to my

key learning area which is history, this unit has improve my teaching knowledge. I am now

able to demonstrate a variety of teaching techniques that can address a student’s

developmental issue. In my key learning area, I will use try to use positive terms more in

order to subtlety change my students mindsets. The GRIP method and positive coping

strategies are also some of the many methods in which this unit has provided me in

addressing these issues for adolescence. These method will change my interaction with

students in my future teaching practices, as I better understand their complex feelings. These

strategies will help me improve a student’s well-being, while also providing these students

with the correct support they need.
