Registration

The Council for Nurses and Midwives deals only with the Registration Process and is not
involved in employment issues, however in order to work as a nurse/midwife in Malta one
must be registered as a Nurse or Midwife.

Qualifications
All qualifications have to be verified by MQRIQ (Malta Qualification
Authority) https://ncfhe.gov.mt/en/services/Pages/All%20Services/mqric.aspx
and a certificate with level 5 or 6 is only considered.

Language
The IELTS academic certificate has to have an average level of 6 or more.

Transcript
The transcript of studies of the Diploma or Degree must confirm that
Nursing/Midwifery studies consisted at least 4600 hours in theory and practice
in Nursing/Midwifery subjects.

Verification certificate
Registration certificates and good standing certificates issued from Nursing
and Midwifery Councils and presented with the documents required for
registration in Malta should cover the last 6 months prior to the submission
of the application.

Police Conduct
This certificate should cover the last 3 months prior to the submission of the
application.

Original /copies of documents

MAIL OR PERSONALLY (DOCUMENTS MUST BE EITHER ORIGINAL OR A CERTIFIED COPY BY A
LEGAL PERSON) FOR APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED. SCANNED DOUCMENTS WILL NOT BE
ACCEPTED.

Application process
This is the process for non EU citizens:-
All documents must be submitted with the application.
The application fee is 192.50 euros and payment is not refundable.
When all the required documents are received, the Council will decide if the
application is valid, if this is the case the applicant will be invited for a
Language and Proficiency Interview to confirm his/her eligibly.

If the applicant is successful in this interview, the next step will be a


written exam in basic nursing subjects which is held in Malta and has to be
personally attended by the candidate.
If the applicant obtains the necessary pass mark in the exam, he/she will be
asked to pay a fee of €400 so as to attend an adaptation course which consists
of theory sessions and 120 hours practice under supervision.
Candidates who successfully complete a local recognised Nursing course
approved by the Council may be exempt from the Nursing Exam and Adaptation
course provided that the person presents an official certificate of confirm
this.
Once this process is finalized, a temporary registration for a period of two
years will be issued.
This registration may be renewed for another two years on condition that the
applicant is of good conduct and has been working as a nurse in Malta.

Travel arrangements
The Council is not involved in any issues regarding the issuing of Visas and
cannot issue any invitation letters, should the application be considered to
be eligible for Registration by the Council, the applicant will be contacted
through e mail with the date of the interview, it is the responsibility of the
candidate to obtain the necessary permits and visa for travel.

Payments may be effected either personally upon submitting the application


form to the Registrar of the Council for Nurses and Midwives, or through a
bank transfer in favour of the Council for Nurses and Midwives quoting account
number 8203 8304 G02.

Local cheques should be issued in favour of the Council for Nurses and
Midwives of Malta.
The Registration process takes approximately 6 months-1year depending on the
number of applications.
