Project Proposal

Project Title: Four Axis Mechanical Arm

Submitted to: Engr. Philip Caesar L. Ebit

Proposed by: Noel Rogie M. Collano

Introduction:

In today’s Modern society control system engineering is never been new numerous
application all over us: The prosthetic robotic arm, satellite that orbits the earth, self-
guided vehicles that deliver materials to a working station from aerospace assembly or
factory that engages non-human skills such as robot welders from japans.

This servomotor had a wide range of ability in control system engineering it allow
engineers to design a mechanical active machine that allows precise control of angular
position, since it has the capability of achieving this output this device has the
competence used in designing a robotic arms from Military to industrial aspect such as
Robotic arm that deals with picking explosives, bomb defusing robot, Control surface of
Radio controlled air craft ,unmanned vehicle and vector control system of rockets.

In regards to servomotor and his extensive application this proposed project is a

servomotor controlled with potentiometer this device is a simple knob that provides a
variable resistance which we can read into the Arduino board as an analog value this
value is very handy when we want to control the servo motor as the output from the
input potentiometer as we turn the potentiometer knob the angle of servo motor
changes with respect from the input, potentiometer permit as to set the desired angle.
Additionally when the chosen angle is achieve the design of mechanical linkage and
structure can be made easily.

Objectives:

The aim of this project is control a servomotor using the input from potentiometer using
Arduino Uno as the microcontroller after that the development of a mechanical structure
and linkage for the robotic arm assembly.
Methodology:
Hardware Materials of this projects:

Arduino Uno Board

Servomotors
Potentiometer

Wires
Bread board

Acrylic mechanical arm kit

Battery holder and Battery

Circuit

Every servo motors have three wires: power, ground and signal. The power is typically
red and should be connected to the 5V pin on the Arduino. The ground wire is typically
black or brown and should be connected to the ground pin on the board. The signal pin
is typically yellow or orange and should be connected to pin 9 on the board the
potentiometer should be wired so that its two outer pins are connected to power and
ground and its middle pin is connected to analog input 0 on the board. This circuit is
based on one servo motor that is being controlled by one 10k potentiometer but on the
other hand using four servos will have the same connection method but different on
software perspective the image below show the schematic and simulation of one servo
controlled by potentiometer on tinker cad.

By using four servo motor and potentiometer will end the same procedure and however
you will need additional codes on the Arduino IDE. The codes showed above is running
correctly, being coded from Arduino Uno schematic and code simulation on Tinker Cad
software online.
Expenses:

Acrylic robotic arm 485.00 pesos

Arduino Uno 325.00 pesos
Wires 50.00 pesos
Bread board 25.00 pesos
4pcs Servo motor 225.00 pesos
4pcs Potentiometer 125.00 pesos

Topic:

It is important to note that this proposed project has the topic of controlled system and
the application of closed loop system known as the feedback system or a machine that
automatically regulates a process variable to a desired point.
