Types of Affixation :
1. Suffixation
Suffix is a letter or set of letters placed at the end of a word or root (base form of a the
purpose is to change the meaning of certain words, this means that the use of suffix will create
new words with meanings and meanings that are different from the basic words.
For example, the word "Avoid" if you add suffix ‘able" will be "Avoidable". Another
example, Friend + ship = friendship, Happy + ness = Happyness, slow + ly = slowly,
Derivational Suffix Derivational suffix is a type of suffix that can form derivative words
from their basic words, this suffix will also change the meaning of the basic words
drastically.
Example Derivational Suffix:
-acy, -age, -al, -an, -ian, -ance, -ancy, -ant, -ary, -ate, -ation, -dom, -er,
-ess, -ful, -hood, -ing, -ive, -ment, -ness, -or, -ory, -ship, -th, -y
Noun Examples of Derived words:

kebahagiaan)
king (noun: raja) + -dom = kingdom(noun: kerajaan)

Penambahan -s/-es pada noun menyebabkan nountersebut potatoes
bermakna plural (jamak), sedangkan penambahan -s worker-
pada verbuntuk menunjukkan bahwa subject-nya merupakan workers
3rd person singular (atau pronoun-nya).

Penambahan -ing pada verbmengubahnya menjadi swim-

2. Prefixation
Prefix is a letter or group of letters placed at the beginning of a word or root (the simplest
form (base form) of a word - cannot be deciphered again) to modify the meaning of the word.
The Pupose is to indicate a negative of a word, can also be used to express the relationship of
time, place and manner
Example Root:
cab (noun)
walk (verb)
good (adjective)
fast (adverb)
Example Prefixation :
melebihi extraordinary,
extra-
extracurricular, extraterritorial
3. Mixed Affixation
An affix is a term which refers to prefix of suffix. Where as prefixes and suffixes that are
words at the same time. The purpose to change the lexical meaning of the same part of
speech.
Example :
Unfortunately, there was not guest room available for him at the time
