Set 1
1. Write your own personal definition of art.
- Art for me is something that reacts to your emotions in an instantaneous
manner where the gradual change of tone from seeing, hearing or
smelling or tasting affects your overall personality.
2. Why is art ageless and timeless?
- Because it is very telling of the era it was made in where certain art styles
may it be music, paintings, drawings and many forms of art reminiscing
from the time period they come from still encapsulate the feelings they put
into that piece.
3. Why is art universal / cultural?
- Because art can be a means of influence where it can tell you about a
certain history of something just by understanding it. It is universal
because even after eras art helps in understanding our ancestors which
helps us understand their history.
4. Why is art not nature?
- Art is different from nature because art mimics nature but nature cannot
be mimicked by art. With nature it is naturally occurring comparative to art
where it comes from our own understanding of nature an example would
be on landscapes etc.
5. Why does art involve experience?
- It involves experience due to the complexity that it requires for each of us
to understand it. There is a certain level of understanding that makes us
think beyond what we see through the art piece.

Make your own personal assumption of art. Write at least 2 and explain your answers. 

1. Subjective
- Art for me is subjective because all of us have different likes and dislikes
and corresponding with my definition of art it appeals to our emotions and
our senses where for the same manner it is different for every one of us

2. Personal
- Art is personal for me because of its deep connection to our minds where
it’s a direct reflection of our desires, fears and understanding of what we
represent through various art forms.

Give three specific examples of artworks that illustrate the historical function of art.
Include the titles of each work.

1. Manila Film Center by: Froilan Hong


- This architectural artwork from the Marcos period in the Philippines serves as a
reminder of the mindset of the administration at that time as during the
construction of this building an accident occurred killing numerous workers and
due to time constraints they left the bodies there and continued the construction.
2. Spolarium by: Juan Luna
- The spolarium is a timeless art piece created by Juan Luna to depict the suffering
of Filipinos during the Spanish Colonial period.

3. Les Misrables by: Victor Hugo


- Victor Hugo tried to depict the social, economical and spiritual
problems of the French revolution and forever cemented it in world
history as an inspirational movement.

Set 4

Explain the economic function of art. Provide one specific example.

- The economical function of art refers to the services rendered by using an


artform as a means to entertain and provide pleasure to the audience or
the viewers an example would be paying for art pieces such as paintings
or paying to go see a musical theater and such.

Set 5
Explain the following.

1. Art is universal because it is popular.


- Art is universal because it is popular due to relatability where pertaining a
certain sentiment because of one piece helps in understanding it more
due to its relationship to the relatability it ensues upon everybody.
2. Art is good because it is universal.
- It is good because it is universal due to getting sensorial representation of
the different cultures and beliefs all around us. It helps in accepting or
understanding the various forms of art and the general understanding of
everyone arounds us.

Set 6: Take photos of any art forms inside your house which you consider completely
functional, more functional and less functional. Rank the ff. art forms. Justify your
ranking assessment.
