Feedkind Protein is a
Premium, non-GMO Ingredient
• Bacteria (methanotrophs) metabolize methane as their sole
source of carbon and energy, producing a nutritious, high-
protein biomass
• Approved for use in the EU, Australia,
Ecuador
– >10 years of safety data in salmon farming
– Safety studies completed in pigs, chickens,
calves, rats, mink, and fox
• Analogous to yeast extract
• Supplied dry as powder or pellets; shelf-
life >12 months at ambient temperature

Commercialization Under Way:
European Fermentation Center Opens in the UK
• Operational since Feb, 2017 • Partnered with Center for Process Innovation
• Over 5 tonnes produced, up to 50-100 per year (“CPI”) to facilitate quick build – 9 months from
start to finish
• Demonstrated achievement of yield and
productivity metrics in first campaign • Critical fermentation and analytical staff in place
• Samples currently available for customers and • Received grant for up to ~£3 million from the UK
regulatory agencies eRGF
• Access to contract staffing provided by CPI and
anaerobic digestion facilities for biogas work

Feed Conversion Ratio – Rainbow Trout

* * *

Digestability and nutritional value of Feedkind Protein is higher than super

prime fishmeal in this study

Feed Conversion Ratio is the primary driver of profit on the farm; same output
of fish for less feed eaten.
Improved performance – Vannamei

10 PL shrimp per tank, 5-6 tanks per group, 8 weeks growth, fixed feeding schedule
Control diet: 15% fishmeal compared to 100% replacement by Feedkind protein

Significant increase in survival relative to fishmeal diet

No significant difference in total biomass even completely eliminating fishmeal

Barriers to Entry - SCP
• IP: How to protect a natural strain? GMO strains can be protected, but how
to overcome consumer acceptance?

• Production technology: How to scale up feedstocks? Mass transfer, surface

area, toxicity, safety? Proprietary reactor vs off-the-shelf?

• Product performance: All SCPs are not equivalent! Target species, product
profile, inclusion level, digestability, nutritional value, palatability.

• Regulatory approval: Approvals are not generic. Approval bodies will assess
potential pathogenicity (species name). New products require extensive
safety testing.

• Commercial scale-up: How to cross the valley of death?
