Training Overview
The Product
MoviolaW is the information and bit viewer for Trackguard WESTRACE MkI & MkII
interlockings and their associated Object Controllers. It graphically displays real-time operation of the railway
Interlocking Systems
from route setting request to route release. It logs every change of state in the ladder logic for that
interlocking. These logs can be viewed graphically in ‘Replay’ or downloaded for further examination. They
are extremely useful to maintenance teams under fault conditions, in the investigation of incidents or when
alarms have been generated by the WESTRACE.
In order to interrogate the WESTRACE ladder logic, a knowledge of interlocking principles and the ability to
read the rungs, nomenclature and status of the individual ladder logic bits is vital for efficient resolution of
problems and incidents.
This course has been built upon the example of a single route. It starts at the route request from Train
Control. It passes through the route availability, setting, route locking, point-calling, route checking and final
aspect setting for that route - with some further explanation of approach locking and sub-route locking and
their conditioning. It proceeds to route cancellation and then looks at low-speed route setting. There is a unit
dedicated to axle-counters and their resetting, sweep and sweep-bypass functions.
The course may be tailored to the specific interlocking rules, nomenclature and signalling type of any
particular Railway Authority. It is aimed firmly at the Maintenance level of knowledge required for fault
finding and resolution. It should give the Maintainer the same knowledge and confidence to interrogate
ladder logic as he/ she had with the original route-relay wiring diagrams.
Target Audience
This course is for Signalling Maintainers responsible for maintenance of Trackguard WESTRACE interlockings
and Object Controllers, fault finding and incident investigation.
Competencies
On completion of this course, participants should be able to:
Describe the basic steps from route request to aspect setting
Describe the purpose of approach locking
Describe the purpose of sub-route locking
Describe how a route is cancelled

Course Details
This is a theoretical and a practical based course that provides participants with the skills to use a SEAR II for
fault finding and to maintain a trackside SEAR II. The Wayguard SEAR II and SEARIIi for Maintainers course is
conducted on the customer’s training room (or in our training room) and is presented over half to 1 day with
a maximum of 6 participants. Theoretical training consists of the SEAR II operating principles supported with
visuals. Practical training, the major component of this course, consists of hands-on experience to undertake
all configuration functions.
We give each participant a copy of the SEAR II Installation and First Line Maintenance manual and a training
manual. We continuously assess participant’s competency during the training and issue a Certificate of
Competency to participants demonstrating competency.
Special Points
This course is best conducted just prior to commissioning of SEAR II installations
