What to do During an Emergency

Proper Lifting Four Keys
• A good grip. Ensure maximum use of the
palm of the hand, the ball of the thumb
and base of the fingers.
• A straight back. The person’s back shall
be kept straight to maintain its most
natural and strongest position. This
means that the knees and ankles must be
bent and the chin kept well into the chest.
The body must be positioned as close to
the load as possible.
• Steady feet. Feet shall be spread apart
the width of the hips with one foot
slightly in front of the other.
• Arms close to the body. Arms shall be
kept as close to the body as possible.

Personal Requirements
• Avoid extreme range of motion and
twisting their body when lifting.
• Minimize reach and distance the
load is carried.
• Avoid lifting loads above shoulder
height.
• Minimize weight of loads (by
mechanical aids, balancing
contents, etc.).
• Keep objects as close to the body
as possible.
• Seek assistance when performing
manual material handling tasks that
may be beyond one’s physical
capabilities.

SAFE TRANSFER FROM /TO BOATS

• Wear a properly fastened personal flotation device


• Proceed to embark or disembark when the boat is
completely secured and after boat master direction

• Have both arms and hands free of any materials and do not
let the sing rope get between the legs

• Be ready to jump from the boat landing to the boat when


the boat is beginning to rise from the bottom of the swell.
Be ready to Jump from the boat to the boat landing when
the boat is at the top of the swell. Timing is critical in both
situations
