From Corgi there was a neat example of a 1948
coach in the Bluebird livery carried by Alexander's
coaches. The casting is of the pretty Duple Vista
body, although in the case of the coach modelled
by Corgi the body was actually built in Edinburgh
by SMT, rather than in Hendon by Duple. SMT
was a Bedford agent, and while there were detail
differences between the Vista bodies built by
Duple and by SMT, they were small enough not to
matter in 1/76 scale. Having said that, the bus-style
fleetname displayed on the boot doors is wrong,
suggesting that Corgi couldn't locate a photograph
showing the rear of the coach.
From EFE came its version of the Duple Vista,

were acquired with the business of Young's Bus

The Fife FS has the later style of radiator grille,

the model in Central SMT colours. It has adverts

The 30ft-long FLF Lodekka was bought in the
1960s by five of the seven SBG companies and has
been produced in eight different liveries. The first,
introduced by EFE in 1992, was in Midland blue.
Midland had 34 FLFs, delivered between 1962 and
1964. Despite having been introduced 25 years ago,
the EFE Lodekka is a really nice casting, which
catches the lines of the Eastern Coach Works body.

Western had 39 and the EFE VRT is a model of
a bus on the 40-mile route from Kilmarnock to

The EFE casting is nicely finished, and I'm
tempted to suggest that the VRTs look better in
1/76 scale than they did in real life.

of Dinky Toys included a number
of examples. There was the

6-Wheel Covered Transport Wagon [no.151b] and
the Six-Wheeled Wagon [no.25s]. These had started
out as pre-war models and were reintroduced again
after the war. During the 1950s further six wheel
military vehicles were introduced, and these were
of course added to my collection.
The Medium Artillery Tractor [no.689] appeared
in November 1957 as a Dinky Supertoys model.
In the Meccano Magazine of that month, it says:
“The tractor is intended for towing medium
artillery equipment, and it is designed to travel into
forward battle areas. It is provided with six-wheel
