Pattern Notes
This shawl is worked sideways. First it is gradually increased until the desired width is achieved, then the
right side stitches “migrate” left as a result of a careful shaping. At the end, the left side is bound off. The
shawl is offered in two sizes – S (L), see diagram on page 2.

Part 1
In this part, the number of stitches in the shawl gets increased at the rate of 2 sts every other row; both
left and right sides are increased at an equal rate. You are going to be alternating the stockinette with
reverse stockinette – each such section adds 20 sts to your total stitch count

Stockinette section
Row 1(RS): k1, yo, k to 2 sts before M, sl2 as if to knit, RM, k1 – psso, PM, k to last st, yo, k1
Row 2(WS): k1, yo, p to last st, yo, k1 (2 sts added)
Rep Rows 1 & 2 until you have 27 sts total.

Reverse Stockinette section

Row 3(RS): k1, yo, p to 2 sts before M, sl2 as if to knit, RM, k1 – psso, PM, p to last st, yo, k1
Row 4(WS): k1, yo, k to M, SM, p1, k to last st, yo, k1 (2 sts added)
Rep Rows 3 & 4 until you have 47 sts total.

Continue alternating stockinette and reverse stockinette sections until you have 127(167) sts. Each
section will add 20 stitches to to your stitch count. Your last section should have been a reverse
stockinette section.

Part 2
In this part, the number of stitches does not change until the bind off, it remains at 127(167) sts until the
end. When viewed on the RS, the right side gets decreased and the left side gets increased. Thus, the
stitches simply “move” from one side to another!
At this point, you should have 63(83) sts on either side of the centre stitch.
Stockinette section
Row 1(RS): k to 2 sts before M, sl2 as if to knit, RM, k1 – psso, PM, k to last st, yo, k1
Row 2(WS): k1, yo, p to last st, k1

Rep Rows 1 & 2 9 more times. You should have 53(73) sts on the right of the centre stitch when viewed
on the RS. Each repeat of Rows 1 & 2 “moves” one stitch over to the left.

Reverse Stockinette section

Row 3(RS): k1, p to 2 sts before M, sl2 as if to knit, RM, k1 – psso, PM, p to last st, yo, k1
Row 4(WS): k1, yo, k to M, SM, p1, k to end

Rep Rows 3 & 4 9 more times.

Continue alternating stockinette and reverse stockinette sections until you have 13 sts on the right of the
centre stitch when viewed on the RS. Your last section would have been the Stockinette stitch section.

Work Rows 3 & 4 of the Reverse Stockinette section 7 times. You should have 6 sts on the right of the
centre stitch.

Garter St section
Row 5(RS): k1, k to 2 sts before M, sl2 as if to knit, RM, k1 – psso, PM, k to last st, yo, k1
Row 6(WS): k1, yo, k to M, SM, p1, k to end

Rep Rows 5 & 6 until you have 1 st on the right of the centre stitch.

Next Row(RS): sl2 as if to knit, RM, k1 – psso, bind off the rest of the sts knitwise using any stretchy
bind off method of your choice. I like to use Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind off and processed every stitch as a
knit stitch.

Finishing
Block and wear! When blocking, make sure to block the end as a straight line .
