The Cuckoo’s Calling review

The Cuckoo's Calling is a criminal novel written by JK Rowling (RG) that recounts the
exhaustive investigation of the detective Cormoran Strike. He was hired by Bristow in
order to resolve the facts behind the mysterious death of his sister, a young model very
recognized in the industry. She is found dead after having fallen from the balcony of her
apartment in Kentigern Gardens, London. J.k Rowling delves into the process of resolving
the case through a detailed narrative in the description of the facts and their characters,
especially in the description of its protagonist, Cormoran Strike.

Life in the army usually leaves irremediable consequences, consequences that those who
have been in their ranks have to contend with once again taking on the role of civilians.
Cormoran is an exmilitary plunged into economic crisis, with psychological and physical
disorders after having been in Afghanistan, also does not have a stable family nucleus as a
result of the risks of his job as a private detective. The case of the death of model Lula
Landry comes as a hope to the economic situation of Strike. Strike, a clever and analytical
man, uses the skills he learned in military intelligence to tie things together supported by
his assistant Robin, a girl who is very efficient in his work and with a great capacity for
analysis.

In addition, the author highlights the darkness behind the shine of wealth and fame. Lula is
a young model with a dream life surrounded by luxuries and excesses. However, as Strike
delves into the events surrounding the girl's death, he discovers his vulnerability as a victim
of a destroyed family nucleus and the loneliness of fame, with a past that torments her
present and that leads her to look for her roots. This is how The Cuckoo's Calling shows a
story very close to reality, this makes the reader get hooked on it. The details in this work
and the precise description of the different facets of its characters are key at the moment to
generate suspense.

Although JK Rowling is a well-known author in the world of fantasy literature with her
master piece Harry Potter, the second best-selling book of all time, in my opinion, He did a
great job dabbling in another literary genre with her Police novel The Cuckoo's Calling.
The detail in each investigation done by the marvelous Detective Strike, supporting by his
clever assistant Robin, in addition to the captivating relationship between these two
characters, the importance given by the author to the thorough description of their
characters, both physically and psychologically, and the complex connection between the
different facts that are told in this story, are aspects that make The Cuckoo's Calling a book
for nothing predictable. This is a book that is cataloged within the juvenile literature, but
due to its grammatical and narrative complexity it could be said that it is a work for both
young people and adults who are passionate about this genre.
