ADVISORY - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WILL YOU VOTE?
WHO: VoteCo – Lubbock based organization rooted in student voting advocacy
WHAT: Voting polls, food trucks, prize incentive games for student and staff voters
WHEN: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 3 (Tuesday)
WHERE: Between Student Union and University Library on the southeast side of the
Texas Tech campus.
WHY: With the 2020 Presidential Election less than a month away, all evidence points to
a lack of improvement in youth voting. In the 2018 Midterm Elections, youth voting
dropped from 43.40% in 2016 to a staggering 32.60%.
Already struggling in general voter turnout, the U.S. is also on track to have one of the
lowest rates of youth voter turnout in the world. Prior to the 2016 Presidential Election,
90% of America’s youth found interest in political matters while 80% stated they
intended to vote. Yet when Election Day came around, only 43% of Americans between
the ages of 18 and 29 casted their vote.
VoteCo staff will be on the Texas Tech campus November 3 to guide students to voting
polls and offer games and food.

Interview Opportunity With Staff of VoteCo, Lubbock’s Foremost Student Voting
Organization

Good morning Samantha,

On November 3, Election Day, Texas Tech students will flood campus to cast their
ballot for the next President of the United States. As the sun rises on Tuesday morning, a handful
of VoteCo staff and volunteers will be stationed around campus prepared to guide students to
polling stations.

the U.S. is on track to have one of the lowest rates of youth voter turnout in the world. Prior to
the 2016 Presidential Election, 90% of America’s youth found interest in political matters while
80% stated they intended to vote. Yet when Election Day came around, only 43% of Americans
between the ages of 18 and 29 casted their vote. VoteCo aims to change the tide in a non-partisan
manner.

Throughout the day, members of the VoteCo team will be available for media interviews. From
VoteCo CEO Gordon Keith to first-generation voter Alexis Rodriguez, the VoteCo team aims to
provide media with insight on youth voting turnout, local voting statistics and voting regulations
amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Media may schedule interviews with VoteCo staff from 8 a.m. to
10:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 3. Media interviews may be conducted at the VoteCo
headquarters at the Texas Tech University Student Union or at any VoteCo station around
campus (map with locations).
