Summative Assessment

Instructions: In this activity, you will apply the geometric concepts you have learned so far, with
an emphasis on triangle similarity, to prove the following theorem:

“A line parallel to one side of a triangle divides the two proportionally.”

You will be required to conduct your own research for this assignment. This means you will
have to find the theorem and its proof online. If you are unsure that a website is reliable, or
whether the proof is appropriate for this class, check with me before continuing.

Once you have understood the proof, you will create a narrated presentation as a tool to teach the
theorem and proof to somebody outside this class. Your slides should include the theorem itself,
an explanation of what the theorem means, and the proof broken up into several slides. The
triangle you use for your proof should have sides labeled a, b, and c. In other words, the sides of
the triangle cannot have lengths with numerical values.

Each slide should be accompanied with text, supporting figures, and narration. ALL illustrations
must be constructed using Geogebra. You have the option of using the website itself or can
download the program onto your personal computer (which I recommend doing).

Use your own words and your own figures. Your final presentation should be 10-15 minutes and
should contain 10-15 slides. Remember to include a references slide citing ALL your sources at
the end. This assignment might be easier if you first create your slides in Powerpoint and then
narrate them using Knovio. Reference the rubric to see how you will be graded. Please contact
me with any questions.
