SSF Project Proposal Upgrading of Shared Service Facilities on Loomweaving

Region Region VI

Project Location Brgy. Malabor, Tibiao, Antique

Name of Cooperator The Cooperator of the project was the LGU Tibiao under Mayor Gil B. Bandoja. The SSF
- Years of Existence Focal Person is Mrs. Eva A. Dayonot, the Community Affairs Assistant (CAA) and OTOP
No. of members Coordinator.

Contact Numbers: Mayor Gil Bandoja-09175357077

One of the projects of the LGU is the revival of the weaving industry in Tibiao. At Malabor,
Tibiao, there were residents who have the learned the skills in weaving from their
grandparents. This group preserved and promoted the weaving heritage of Tibiao. These
locales have linkages with the Kalibo-based firms, dressmakers and other converters, who
are the market outlets of their products. The LGU on the other hand provided financial
support in terms of initial working capital to this group of weavers.
With the help of LGU Tibiao, the poor or underprivileged families were given a chance to
earn additional income in a viable manner.

The Shared Service Facility for Loomweaving at Malabor, Tibiao was approved in 2018.
The equipment were utilized by the beneficiaries specifically the members of the Tibiao
Active Weavers and Knotters Association (TAWKA). The group has established linkages
with couturiers, designers and pasalubong centers in the province. The linkages of the
Brief Project Description
group created during their participation to trade fairs also expanded their market reach to
Metro Manila.

The production capacity of the group was 20 meters per day. This volume cannot meet the
demand of the identified buyers. The need for loomwoven cloth was more pronounced
during this new normal situation due to the trend on “buy local” products. Consumers buy
facemasks and other homestyle products such as pillow cases made with handwoven cloth.

Hence, additional equipment for loomweaving is proposed to increase the production

capacity and substantially reduce the cost of production.
Please take note that the target beneficiaries is 853 who will avail of the services of the
SSF. With this number, the SSF will be fully utilized. Further, the proposed equipment will
augment the capacity of the current blast freezer to serve the identified groups.
