Types of Sentences

Declarative

The bear bites.


Declarative sentences are STATEMENTS.
Must have/be:
● A statement - something just said
● Always end with a period.
Interrogative
The bear bites? Or Does the bear bite?

Interrogative sentences are QUESTIONS.

Think of interrogation- an interrogation is when a person is being asked


many questions.

Must have/be:

● A question
● Interrogative sentences may start with a verb. About 90% of the time
● Always end with a question mark ?
Exclamatory
The bear bites!

Exclamatory sentences show DEEP EMOTIONS/FEELINGS.

Must have/be:

● Show deep emotions/feelings (happiness, surprise, anger,


etc…)
● Always end with an exclamation mark !
Imperative
Bite the bear.

Imperative sentences are commands and/instructions.

Think imperial like in king/queen. You know, like your parents at home.

Must have/be:

● Are commands and/or instructions


● Start with verbs. The actions that must be followed and/or requested
from the listener(s)
● Always end with a period.
