“Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us this wonderful day. Were also thankful for all these
blessings and privileges you continuously giving unto us. We humbly ask for forgiveness in our sins
and wrong doings. And now Lord, we offer to you our class today, we pray that through your divine
guidance that we would listen and focus attentively. Help us to release all stress, doubts and negative
feelings. Lead us to your righteousness and may your holy spirit rest upon us. We pray this in the
mighty name of God, In Jesus name we pray, Amen.”

Definitions of Literacy Skills

- Literacy is the ability to understand and evaluate meaning through reading, writing, listening and
speaking, viewing and representing.

- Literacy skills need to continually expand and diversify because of our rapidly changing social and
economic environment forms and media.

Importance of Literacy

- People will need advanced levels of literacy to perform their job, act as a citizens and conduct their
own lives.

- People will need literacy to cope with the flood of information they will find everywhere.

- People will need literacy to feed their imagination to create the world of the future.

Categories of Literacy Skills

 Reading
RECEPTIVE  Listening
Receptive - what you receive and
 viewing how you make meaning

 Speaking Productive - what you produce


PRODUCTIVE  Writing and how you create meaning.
 Presenting

6 Early Literacy Skills

 Print Motivation - Children who enjoy the book and want to learn how to read.

 Print Awareness - Children know to handle a book and how to follow the words on a page.

 Letter Knowledge - Children know the difference of every letters, know their name and sound

 Vocabulary - Children know the names of things.

 Narrative Skills - Children will be able to describe things and events and tell stories.

 Phonological Awareness - Children will be able to hear and play with smaller sounds in
words.

Procedure:

1. Group the class into 4 groups and make a square in the center.
2. The teacher in the corner have a glass of bowl and the representative of each group will going to
pick one situation.
3. The students will act it in the center.
