INTRODUCTION

Shake, Shake Fries/ Churon is a business created by group friends, Benjovie Dela Cuesta, John
Russel Castillo, Lloyd Eldrick Cuevas, Audrey Mae Cabrera, Mia Rafaela Cruz and Rica Jelyn Lin. They
created a business inside the school because they noticed the cravings of students, teachers and staffs for
different foods from cafeteria. Above all, they want to satisfy customers’ needs and wants in foods so
that they created the business then their second reason why they build it is to gain profit.

To be able to start a business, monetary issue is one of the biggest things must be considered. Our
group of friends start to save money from our daily allowances. The target fund must be collected was
900.00 php so we save 150.00 php each. Luckily, we gathered it within a short period of time so we
started the business as soon as possible.

Our business sells fries, beverage and Churons. We come up to sell fries because our schoolmates
asking us to sell it. Churons are food combination of Filipino delicacy, Turon, and very in demand French
pastry, Churos. Churon is unique product that we sell because we are the only business introduce it to the

EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT

MACROENVIRONMENT ASSESSMENT

1. SOCIO-CULTURAL ASSESSMENT

The cultures or societies that people live in, along with the type of contact that
individuals have with one another, influences food choices. The importance of beliefs, traditions
and food bans, as part of everyday life, influence us to make certain food choices. The type of
lifestyle, job, education, size of the family, religion and importance of the hospitality within the
social group are also important in making food choices. Aside from the all of these, there are
other groups that sells one of the product the we offer.

The EA identifies the social forces influencing the food choices in the ECCAT. These
includes the 1. Family influences, 2. Demographics, 3. Religion.

Religions

What we’re seeing is a rise in organic and whole foods as diets and lifestyle changes
come into play. Vegetarian, vegan and pescetarian eating are becoming less of a fad and more of
a lifestyle choice-particularly with the younger generation. How these food appeal to people is
based on the branding look.

We are also looking for the possible allowance of the students, since the allowance has a
big factor that will affect the business. Value is a major factor in the products that the consumer’s
purchase. A business product usually appeal to certain allowance groups. For example premium
products such as high-price food and beverages usually appeal to those with higher allowances.
Conversely, people with comparatively lower allowances are more sensitive to price and,
therefore may prefer purchasing below their afford price.
Aside of these, the religions of the consumers has a certain factor in the food business.
There are religions that gives a certain food that their followers must eat. So that’s why it has a
factor in food choices.

2. POLITICAL ASSESSMENT

ECCAT is a known school in Sta. Maria which promotes a “no junk food allowed” inside
the school premises. The students are always cravings and looking for junk foods when they are
outside the school. The school also gives a rule that the students are not allowed to buy foods
outside the school campus during class hours, so the stalls that we will built was just found inside
the school specifically at the quadrangle’s stage.

There are two factors that might affect the food business. The first is the laws concerning
the health and food safety of the customers includes RA NO. 10611 also known as Food Safety
Act of 2013. This act strengthen the food safety regulatory system in the country to protect the
consumer health and facilitate market access of local foods and food products for other purpose.
This Food Safety Act of 2013 provides that the State shall protect consumers from trade
malpractices and from substandard or hazardous products. Also, it includes the safe food access
of the consumers to the market.

Food safety of the consumer must always come first in establishing a food business. We
might as well not satisfy their cravings but give them the best, high quality and healthy food. In
these case, the different food industries shall follow these act, and if not they might as well
discontinue functioning or closed their business.

Lastly, the Government permits that the business needed before opening it. In this case,
we might as well need the School’s Administrator approval instead of getting Government
permits, since our business we’re going to establish and run inside the school campus, during
class hour. We might as well propose the approval of stalls to start our business.
3. ECONOMIC ASSESSMENT

The Philippine economy is the world’s 34th largest economy by nominal GDP according
to the 2017 estimate of the International Monetary Fund’s statistics, it is the 13 th largest economy
in Asia, and the 3 rd largest economy in the ASEAN after Indonesia and Thailand. The Philippines
is one the emerging markets and is the sixth richest in the Southeast Asia by GDP per capita
values, after the regional countries of Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.

The Philippine is primarily considered a newly industrialized country, which has an

economy transitioning from one based on agriculture to one based more on services and
manufacturing. As of 2017, GDP by Purchasing power parity was estimated to be at $878,980
billion.

The food business are sensitive to a number of economic conditions that may affect the
growth such as; Cost and accessibility, food deflation and inflation, the market place,
occupational and finances, and the foreign exchange rate.

The cost and accessibility of the business is one of the most important factors when we
select food, it is particularly important to low income families, students and the elderly. They
have a greater tendency to consume unbalanced diets and in particular low intakes of healthy
food. However, access to more money does not automatically equate to a better quality diet but
the range of foods from which one can choose should increase. The cost of the food varies
according to:

a. How much is bought at once?- if there is storage, large quantities are a better buy
whether the food is in season or locally produced.
b. Store specials
www.philstar.com/business

The food inflation and deflation and foreign exchange rate must come out together.
Inflation is when the price rises, while the deflation is when the prices fall. Also in foreign
exchange rate, when the value of dollar in peso arises the value of the products in the market
arises and when the value of dollar in peso falls the value of the products in the market also falls.
In these case when the value of dollar arises there is an inflation and when the value of the dollar
fall there is a deflation. So that the cost of the product that we sell is based on the market’s
pricing and the market pricing is based on the value of the peso.

The market place is the place where you sell the product. The place of the purchase must
be chosen carefully. The food bought at a market or roadside stalls can save money, but there is
usually no money back guarantee.

Lastly, the occupational and finances influence the food selection. The physical demand
of the job the social expressions are reflected in food choices. The income received from the
employment (for the staffs) and income received by the students from their guardians determines
the quality and quantity of food chosen.

4. TECHNOLOGICAL ASESSMENT

Technology can give a competitive edge to every form of business right now. With
technology advancing, it helps us to reach consumers in new and easier methods. Also
technology helps us to lessen the things we need to do.

We used the social media in marketing our business, in this case we didn’t spend a large
amount of money, they can see it clearly but the things we care the most is that we have more
competitors that also advertising using social medias and the negative comments that we might
receive.

The technology gives us the things that might help us to lessen the things we need to do.
Unlike before people needs to get a wood for the fire and start cooking but now, we have a gas
stove where we are going to turn it on and start cooking. This helps us to be more productive.

Despite the technology available, food still requires preparation method that technology
won’t be able to perform. We always need the man power to help this technology function
properly.

5. ECOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

Ecological factors influencing business are connected to actions and processes necessary
to protect natural environment and in the same time maintain or increase efficiency in business.

We always notice a poster in an industries and roads that states “think Green”. Green
living promotes gaining consumer appreciation of eco-friendly products and services, creating
image of responsible corporation. There are ecological or environmental laws influencing
management decisions and goals, these are; Waste Management Law and Total Plastic Ban Act
of 2011.

Waste Management Law govern the transport, treatment, storage, and disposal of all
manner of waste, including municipal solid waste, hazardous waste, and nuclear waste. Waste
laws are generally designed to minimize or eliminate the uncontrolled dispersal of waste
materials into the environment in a manner that may cause ecological or biological harm, and
include laws designed to reduce the generation of waste and promote or mandate waste recycling.

In this case, the Waste Law gives us the opportunity to be more productive, smart and
industrious in recycling our waste. We can also segregate our waste to identify the recyclable to
not and dispose it in a right way.
The Total Plastic Ban Act of 2011 is still a Bill it is proposed by Senator Loren Legarda.
This Bill wants ban the use of plastics in groceries, restaurants and other establishments and
providing penalties for violators.

Even if this Bill is pending to be a law, we still want a green living environment instead
of using plastic caps or plastic plates for our packaging we will use paper cups and paper plates.
So this will help to preserve our environment.

Industry Sources of Opportunities

The Shake Shake and Fries is a small business that provides a quality food that will satisfy the
cravings of the customer. It is falls under the food industry since it serves foods and also a merchandising
business because of the product that it provides.

The target customers of the industry is the buyers of fries and churos specifically in Early
Christian College of Arts and Technology. The students and school staff who eats those can afford it and
can definitely buy the product.

The competitors of the business must be the business who sells this kind of foods and who sells
different varieties of foods and beverages. The canteen and the other business that might establish by our
fellow students will be the indirect competitor since most of us establish a food business.

The market would probably be the school, the students and the school’s staff are not allowed to
buy outside the campus during class hours so they might probably buy our product since the food that the
canteen sells are not like what we are selling. They are also inclined to buy foods that they think are new
so that they wanted to taste it.

With those characteristics of the market and the business there are certain opportunities and
threats the business might face. The business can gain via selling the product in an equal way, they can
satisfy the consumers cravings so that the consumer wil buy more because they’re looking for it day after
day. They also can gain their knowledge in running the business and revolutionize the business which
they can gain big potential buyers and they can also be more competitive than the usual.

Aspite of the opportunities that business have, there are major threats that they might face in the
future, there will be the shortage of the raw materials of our products, especially for thepotatoes and
powdered juices, the climate change, the improper waste disposal. This threats might affect the supply
and demand of the potential buyers and with that it might lead to a loss or bankruptcy.

MARKET SOURCES OF OPPORTUNITIES

Our business look for the ingredient that are not hard to find in the market. They are common to
buy in public market and they are used in typical Filipino Houses. We select the stalls in market to supply
us their high quality products and willing to sell the products in an affordable price. Our business sell
newly expose product, Churon, a Filipino version of Churros and Turon, in very affordable price to reach
the demand on foods.

In ECCAT there is only one source of food, the Cafeteria, they are selling heavy meals, biscuits,
sandwiches and many more. Other students and school staffs are seeking for new foods because they
seemed that the items in cafeteria are ruitinary. Some students made a decision to sell products because of
the demand of seeking new foods.

We all know that the cafeteria cannot sustain the cravings of all the students and school staff due
to the large population of the school. The approximate population of ECCAt is 1,275 including students,
teachers, and school staffs.

Process

 Management Process

Planning and Budgeting

Our group decide to be unique in terms of food business. We think about a product which
making some noise in public and a Filipino delicates. Churon is the result of our planning
because it is the combination of churons which is really indemand in ECCAT and turon which is
a unique Filipino dessert. This unique combination will leave a mark in people. Another part of
our planning is the price, we decide to sell it attainable price, we decide to sell it attainable price
and with that we sell it for five pesos (5.00 php). Lastly we notice if there is no competitor selling
fries we will sell it to increase our sales.

Budgeting was done by looking for the price of the needed ingredients and we come up
for our budget. Our share per person is 150 php and will get it in our savings and allowances. The
result of our plan is we earn a lot because of selling unique products and by selling more if there
are no competitors.

Organizing Staffing

Being a small group we don’t have exact leader who assigned the task but instend we are giving
voluntary task. We are asking for every team member who can buy something, who can bring something
but we ensure that everyone has equal task. The whole team is assuring that everyone is effective and
efficient in aspects.

Evaluating & Monitoring

Every after task we are evaluating each other and ensure that everyone can improve the negative
side of ours and sustain the positive side of ours to be able to exceed our business. There are times that we
are struggling, how to say the imperfections of each other so we seek a way how to say it . We are trying
to say it in decent way and formal way to avoid chaos in our group.

Leading & Directing

Since from the beginning we clear to each other the Vision, Mission and Objective of the
business to earn profit by serving the customer high quality product and being fair to them. In every
meeting there is someone get lost in our direction, so we have our other group member to accompany who
is in lost.
Coordinating & Orchestrating

We regularly conducted a meeting inside the classroom, Mia often lead the meeting, we talk
about what strategy we will use to maximize our profit and we talk about our business plan that can lead
us success.

Controlling

We give a task, and each member volunteer to do the task given, and each member of the group
really do their best to finish the assigned task, but sometimes there is someone who is willing to shoulder
the assignment of others that can’t completely done.
Management Functions

PRODUCT

Our business remain in our vision, mission and objectives and we are committed to stick to it. The
product of our business stay on it. Our business sells Churon, combination of Churos and Turon. This
product is absolutely new in the market and it is breakthrough product. Even though our product is new, it
is highly competitive in the market. Aside from that we also sell fries and mojos, which form of copycat
product, we are selling it in more attainable price than to our competitor. Like how Churon is a tiger
product of our business, the fries and mojos are at the same position.

PRICE

The price of our product depends on our set objectives. We sell high quality products in attainable price.
We are more focused on the quality of our product at the same time we are earning enough revenue and
profit. The selling price of Churon is 5.00php, for fries 10.00php and for fries and drinks we sell it with a
price of 25.00php.

POSITIONING

The selected marketing battle plan of our business is Competitive Perspective. Our business differentiate
and distinguish ourselves from our competitor. We sell these products because the products sell by our
competitor are more likely the same and already entered the market. Churons are newly created and
original product of our business while fries and mojos are already known in the market; the competitors
also sell those products but we decided to sell it in very affordable price.

PACKAGING

This is the factor that has become an environmental, food safety, quality and identity issues so we decided
that our packaging must be safe in all those issues. The packaging of our churon and fries is in the paper
bag which is eco-friendly, safe in foods because our product is fast to consume and in food business,
we’re the only one using paper bag. In terms of fries with drinks, we put it into paper cups.

PLACE

Since our business was created in our school and our target market are the students and staffs, we put it
into the school. We are selling our products on the ground floor near at the guard house.
PEOPLE

Our business is operating by its owners too. We have assigned tasks to each of us like buying ingredients,
preparing needed things in operating business, cooking products, finance, receiving payment from the
customers and promoting the product. The personal assets of ours were applied in the business. In our
team, we are not allowing each other to be safe in Filipino phrase “Okay na yan” but we are doing our
best to say this is our business.

PROMOTION

Promotion of our product is the best communication of our business to our customers. We don’t have
tarpaulins nor signage of our business but we can say that verbal communication/verbal promotion and
proving to our customers that our ingredients are high quality. Having a good communication skills and
securing quality products are our key in promoting our products.
F.I.N.A.N.C.E FUNCTION

FINANCING

The monetary issue is one of the greatest concern in making business. Financing in our business was done
by canvassing the needed raw materials and necessity in operating the business. All monetary issues were
encountered here. If we reached the worst scenario, if we have loss and deficit in our funds/assets, we will
share equally the things we needed to fulfill.

INVESTING

After financing all needed and possible things or after financial plan has been done, investing will enter.
The investment value in our business per head is 150.00php which include all necessity and emergency
expenses. We assured that it is sufficient in running the business. In field of business as game of
investment risk, we assure that the risk of getting losses is low because we are conducting study to
succeed in the field of business.

NEGOTIATING AND DEAL MAKING

After financing and investing all the monetary issues, negotiating and deal making with partner networks
and potential customers must be considered . Negotiating and deal making with partner networks in our
business was done during the canvassing of all the ingredients or the things we need to operate and with
our potential customers are during the business operation. We always consider the customers right before,
during and after the operation so that we didn’t have so much problem during negotiating and deal
making.

ADMINISTERING

During the business operation, we used to manage it properly since we did a voluntary tasks, we didn’t
had so much problem. Each one of us give their best in managing and operating the business. We always
make sure that the tasks that we volunteered are the better things to do to improve our business.

NUMBERS, GENERATION, ANALYSIS AND REPORTING

The numbers of the products and potential buyers were always considered during the operation. We
always think about the large population in the market so we used to produce a large amount of products
that we sell. We also analyze that the supply of our product should be enough to meet the actual demand
of potential buyers. And after that, we gathered and talk about the things we must improve and we must
do on the next business implementation.
CASH AND TREASURY MANAGEMENT

Since the canvassing and the operating of business occurs the money we invested and gathered were
saved by one of our group. He used to manage it properly by giving us the receipts of expenses and list of
sales during and after the operation. We have this one group mate who actually been good in managing
the cash flows.

EVALUATING AND PLANNING

The planning of our business were done before the business operation. We used to have a meeting every
time we have a tasks to do and we are planning everything that we need to do in implenting the business.
Churon our specialty is the result of our business planning. After the planning, we used to evaluate if the
plans that we did are good during the business implementation. All the evaluating and planning about our
business were done during our meeting.
8 R’s of Human Resource

market, our competitor and our own business.

The target market of our business was the students, teachers and staffs of our school. The target
market’s have the age between 13-65 years old. The advertisement we did in social media affects the
increase of our customers. Almost all of students and staffs have their social media so we use it and for
others who don’t have it we sales talk to them. In fact we have 98 customers, approximately, in every
business operation, after the online and personal promotion our customer increased up to 24%, we
reached 122 customers after. We also reached that amount of customer because of using our personal
assets to promote in social media and sales talking our business.

Our competitor will be the cafeteria and other students open their business in school also. We use
our gained knowledge how to keep in spotlight even we have a lot competitors. We all know that the
people nowadays want a budget friendly product, so we sell our product in low cost ranging 5.00-20.00
php. This is one of the reasons why our product is catchy for our public. Second, we ask our competitor if
they will sell for specific date, if not we will sell to avoid separation of customers. Lastly, we saw that
some of the reasons why the customers did not patronize business if they have low customer service and
insufficient raw materials, we assigned task for everyone and we are all willing to shoulder the entire
tasks needed to be done. These are all things we did to satisfy our customers’ needs and wants and to cope
with the competition happening within the business world.
