Karly Keiper Write Up

I was super excited to hear from Karly knowing that she is a Butler Alumni. I didn’t know
she is a special educator which I was super excited about. One thing I brought to the visit is the
connection I have to Butler and also the special education world. Being able to have that
connection with Karly made me more interested in what she had to say because I could
potentially be on the same path as her in the future.
This enhanced the core value of the Excitement of Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring
because although Karly is not in a classroom teaching right now, she is still using her skills in
another, similar way. It was clear to me that she is happy as a Medicaid Waiver Behavior
Clinician even though she is not in a classroom setting. Although my dream has always been to
be a special education teacher, it makes me think about all of the other options that I could
have with the skills I will have.
This visit with Karly enhanced my life as a professional because she brought so many
important aspects to remember when being an educator. I wrote down many points she said
and had in her presentation:
-“If you can dream it you can do it.”
-“Structure is key.”
-“Boundaries are important.”
-“Public schools is the biggest blessing to our friends with special needs.” (This is my favorite
one)
-Love yourself as much as you love your students.”
-Good things take time.”
-Empathy goes a long way.”
All of these quotes are ones that I will carry with me through my professional life as they are so
inspirational and motivational.
