WEEK 3

1. A gas undergoes two processes. In the first, the volume remains constant at
0.350m3 and the pressure increases from 1.54 × 105 𝑃𝑎 to 7.04 × 105 𝑃𝑎. The
second process is a compression to a volume of 0.120m3 at a constant
pressure of 7.04 × 105 𝑃𝑎. Find the total work done by the gas during both
processes.

2. An ideal gas is taken from a to b on the pV-diagram shown in figure given.

During this process, 700 J of heat is added and the pressure doubles.
a. How much work is done by or on the gas?
b. How does the temperature of the gas at a compare to its temperature at b?
Be specific.
c. How does the internal energy of the gas at a compare to the internal energy
at b?

3. 13 gram of water becomes of steam when boiled at a constant pressure of 1

atm. The heat of vaporization at this pressure is Lv=2.256 × 106 J/kg .Compute
(b) its increase in internal energy.

4. Based on the video given; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsjLI3g9feU

a. What he said about the definition of first thermodynamics law?
b. Explain in your word what he has explained about the 1st
thermodynamics law using your example?
c. If we replace the value of Q by your last three number of matric
number and W=230J. Find the internal energy.
