It’s a small diameter shock tube made with three layers of plastic

surrounding a reactive mixture. When initiated, a shock wave

propagates within it at a velocity of approximately 2,000 m/s, with
a pressure and temperature sufficient to initiate the detonator
through the delay element, without much damage to the exterior
of the tube.

It is designed to provide the maximum flexibility and choice of safe

distance in the initiation of blasting in both underground and
surface applications.

Recommendations and application

▪ Do not stretch violently.

▪ In surface operations use connectors with low-potential detonators to avoid slicing
cuts.
▪ Keep the ends of the shock tube sealed, and free of dirt and humidity, as if these enter
the interior of the tube they may cause it to fail to function.
▪ The shock tube provides a high level of security against initiation by static electricity
or radio frequency transmissions.
▪ The shock wave travels inside the tube without affecting the explosive characteristics
of the explosive column of charge with which it is in direct contact.
