Missing term formula ⇒

(E-1 ¿ ¿ = nc
n
n En−¿ nc n−1 E n−1+ ¿ nc n−2 E n−2−¿ nc n−3 En−3

Example:

What is the value of n in the following number sequence?

16, 21, n, 31, 36

Solution:

We find that the number pattern of the sequence is “add 5” to the preceding
number. So, n = 21 + 5 = 26

#Estimate of the missing terms in the following table:

Year (X) 1940 1950 1960 1970 1980 1990
Population( 363 391 421 445 ? 500
Y)

Solution:

Here,
Given value =5
∴ ∆ 5f(x)=0

⟹(E-1 ¿ ¿n f (x)= 0 [∴∆ ≡ (E-1) ]

⟹( 5c 5 E5−¿ 5c 4 E 4 +¿5c 3 E3−¿5c 2 E 2+ ¿5c 1 E 1)=0
⟹( E5 −5 E 4 +¿ 10 E3 −¿ 10 E2 +5 E−¿1) f(x)=0
⟹ E5 f (x)−5 E 4 f (x )+ 10 E 3 f (x)−10 E 2 f (x)+¿ 5E f(x)−¿f (x)=0
⟹f(x+5) −¿ 5f(x+4) + 10f(x+3) −¿ 10f(x+2) + 5f(x+1) −¿ f(x) =0
Assume, X= 1
⟹f(6) −¿ 5f(5) + 10f(4) −¿ 10f(3) + 5f(2) −¿ f(1) =0
⟹500 −¿ 5f(5) + (10 ¿ 445) −¿ (10 ¿ 421) + (10 ¿ 391) −¿ 363 =0
⟹5 f(5) = 2332
2332
⟹f(5)= 5

∴ f(5) = 466.4 Ans:
