CLASS: VII B TIME: 40 MIN

SUBJECT: SCIENCE

TOPIC: ACIDS, BASES AND SALTS

SUB-TOPIC: ACIDS,BASES AND INDICATORS

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

Science curriculum at the upper primary stage intends to develop:

 Scientific temper and scientific thinking

 Understanding about the nature of scientific knowledge
 Process skills of science which includes observation(s), posing question(s), searching
various resources of learning, planning, investigations etc.
 Sensitivity towards environmental concerns.
 Respect for human dignity and rights, gender equity, values of honesty, integrity,
cooperation and concern for life.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to:

 Classify things as Acidic, Basic and Neutrals.

 Identify chemical nature of substances by using various indicators like
turmeric,china rose and litmus.
 Understand the use of indicators around us.
 Prepare natural indicators like china rose and turmeric.
 Observe the effect of different indicators on acids and bases.
 Distinguish between acids and bases.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:

 Name the things which are sour in taste?

 Name the things which are bitter in taste?
 Which things are salty in taste?
 Why lemon is sour?
 Why soap gives bitter taste?
 Which makes soap slippery?
 Why we use vinegar in pickles?

TEACHING AIDS:
Different dilute chemicals in the lab ( Acids, bases and indicators), turmeric, china rose, lemon
juice, soap and detergent solution, window cleaner, salt and sugar solution, vinegar, baking soda,
litmus paper (red and blue), filter paper, test tube, phenolphthalein, droppers.
