ATI-ITCPH is a government-training center dedicated to the
empowerment of farmers and entrepreneurs to enable them to achieve
their goals of productivity and profitability.
It has a U-shaped, green and white building, which stands out among
the other government agencies located within the vicinity.
1. Conduct of trainings
• Handling and motivating farm workers are the emphasis of the Center’s
Farm Personnel Management Course.
4. Networking
Collaborative efforts with partner institutes both here and abroad are
continuously pursued and intensified. Such program
results in a wider base of knowledge in the development of appropriate
technology options for pig producers. Linkages with private organizations
are continuously pursued and a major activity of the Center.

Housing
→ Climatic effect; principles of
housing; site and building planning;
and pen lay-out including equipment
and housing materials.
Health
→ Introduction to health, general preventive measures, principles
of vaccination; common diseases of breeders, piglets and finishers,
preventive medication program, and herbal medicine.
Economics
→ Terminologies, production costs, cost analysis, cost-price
calculations, income analysis, and valuation of project costs.
Extension
→ Introduction to extension and its approaches, farming systems,
communication, teaching methods, program planning, monitoring and
evaluation.

COURSE EVALUATION
REQUIREMENTS
At the end of the training, the participants are expected to have gained
the basic knowledge and skills in swine production and identify the
appropriate techniques in managing a pig farm.
COURSE CONTENTS
Breeding
→ Different breeds, estrus cycle, breeding methods, heat detection,
selection, culling, judging sows and gilts, and introduction to artificial
insemination.
Housing
→ Usage of different pens, equipment and tools, flooring, walling,
roofing, pen layout, and waste disposal.
Health
→ Introduction to health and diseases, recognition of disease symptoms,
first aid treatment, herbal medicine, and herd health program.
Waste Management
→ Introduction to biogas production, bio-organic fertilizer and
composting.

Economics
→ Cost of establishing an AI Center, and cost analysis.
REQUIREMENTS
The course will serve as a venue for exposure of the participants on the
different techniques of waste management procedures, which can be
implemented in the farm. It is a combination of theoretical and practical
lessons under the supervision of ATI-ITCPH’s well-trained staff.
At the end of the course, the participants are expected to: understand
the different effects of animals waste on the environment; indentify
different options on aste management; discuss the basic principles and
techniques of biogas and bio-organic fertilizer production; and identify
government policies related to proper waste management.
COURSE CONTENTS
Biogas
→ Parts of a biogas plant, classification and design principles, technical
design, establishment and operation, maintenance, utilization,
operational problems and their remedies.
Bio-Organic Fertilizer (BOF)
→ Processing, Structural / Equipment requirements of a BOF plant,
investment requirement, cost and return analysis, microbial growth
determination, and processing.
Effective Microorganism
→ Advantages and disadvantages of the process, usage and its
application.
Government Policies
→ Rules and regulations implementing the Environmental Impact
Statement System.
REQUIREMENTS
The Meat Processing Course aims to equip the participants with the
necessary knowledge and skills in processing pork into ham, bacon,
native sausages, tocino, pork tapa, corned pork and hamburger. Meat
processing provides added value to pork thereby raising income of pig
raisers.
At the end of the training, the participants are expected to: understand
and apply the principles of meat hygiene and sanitation; discuss the basic
concepts and processes involved in meat processing; and demonstrate
the skills involved in meat processing.

FIELD TRIPS
REQUIREMENTS
Health Issues
→ Model swine herd, area management in cases of disease outbreak,
analysis of reproductive problems in the herd, determining sample size
basics of serology, necropsy, handling and preservation of samples,
post-mortem examination of lesions, emerging disease of pigs,
environment, pig flow and ethnoveterinary medicine.
TRAINING APPROACH
This training consists of theory and practical lessons, reports, case study
and actual farm record / herd diagnosis relative to production medicine.
Trainees will undergo farm exposure to gather pertinent information on
the disease status of the herd, afterwhich a herd analysis will be made
and reported for comments and critiquing. Likewise, participants will
prepare an action plan towards the end of the course.
Laboratory
→ Quality control, feed microscopy, physical and chemical analysis.

such as health, fairness, ecology and care.

→ the management of animals, farm planning and design and types of

→ alternative health care in sustainable pig farming

This 8-week course is one of the Center’s regular courses intended for
4-H Club members and out - and in-school youths from different parts
of the country.

Swine Industry
→ description of industry structure and current level of production
REQUIREMENTS
The radio airing usually lasts for five (5) to six (6) sessions covering
pre-selected topics and delivered by competent and highly qualified
resource persons, followed by practical session and ending to a massive
graduation ceremony. Listeners are expected to be well-equipped with
necessary knowledge and skills needed to deliver the work of a livestock
raiser and producer.
COURSE CONTENTS
Practical Exam
→ Listeners will be exposed to practical activities which would serve
as an avenue to apply all knowledge gained during aired discussions.
Here, top achievers will be identified who will be merited during
commencement exercises.
Mass Graduation
→ All listeners who have successfully passed the final assessment
examination will be accompanied by their Municipal or City Focal person
for the graduation and awarding ceremonies.
Evaluation
→ Listeners need to pass pre and post tests and midterm and final
assessment examinations before they can be awarded their certificates
of training.

Alternative Feeds
→ Common alternative feedstuffs in the Philippines, advantages and
risks when feeding alternative ingredients; identification of feedstuffs
available at ITCPH.
Feeding management
→ Feeding recommendation when using alternative feeds.
TRAINING APPROACH
This training consists of theory and practical lessons and actual farm
visit relative to alternative feed production. Trainees will undergo farm
exposure to identify and collect information on the available feedstuffs
and observe the instructor while the feedstuffs are processed. Likewise,
participants are also to propagate their own feedstuffs using the
available tools and materials.
