TRAINING CENTER
ON PIG HUSBANDRY
Helping the industry become globally-competitive.
VISION
The emergence of dynamic and self-
sustaining rural communities of organized
pig farmers doing profitable business in a
globally competitive environment.

MISSION
To be known as a Center of Excellence
in practical training and information
dissemination on pig technology in
Southeast Asia and the Pacific Region.
ATI-ITCPH is a government-training center dedicated to the
empowerment of farmers and entrepreneurs to enable them to achieve
their goals of productivity and profitability.

ATI-ITCPH is one of the 17 training centers of the Agricultural Training

Institute whose mother agency is the Department of Agriculture.

It was established in June 1985 through the joint efforts of the

governments of the Philippines and the Netherlands.

The Center is located at Marawoy, Lipa City, Batangas, approximately

78 kilometers south of Manila.

It has a U-shaped, green and white building, which stands out among
the other government agencies located within the vicinity.

ATI-ITCPH offers comprehensive and practice-oriented trainings on

pig husbandry and other related disciplines, following the principle
of “learning by doing”. The ATI-ITCPH course curricula are carefully
evaluated to include all aspects of pig husbandry, which suit specific
working conditions, and needs of our valued clientele.

This is Asia’s only specialized training center on pig husbandry.

Classroom instructions and practical classes follow the ‘learning by

doing’ principle.
Program Thrusts
and Services
ATI-ITCPH has the following
focused programs:

1. Conduct of trainings

• Regular training programs on pig husbandry and related disciplines

such as Artificial Insemination, Waste Management, Meat Processing,
Animal Feedmilling Technology and Swine Production Medicine.
Participation in these courses is through invitations sent by ATI-ITCPH
and/or through the recommendation of respective government offices
and farmers’ organizations.

• Handling and motivating farm workers are the emphasis of the Center’s
Farm Personnel Management Course.

• Entrepreneurship Course. The Center believes that basic and advanced

technological knowledge should be coupled with entrepreneurial skills,
a mindset to make self-
employment a viable
career option.

• Tailor-Made Courses in support to the training needs of the private

sector.

• Off-Center Courses in support to the technology needs of the various

local government units and farmers’ cooperatives or organizations.

• E-Learning Course. This is a 7-module course catering to

those who cannot be physically present to attend the training at ATI-
ITCPH, It is an internet-based training course for the computer-savvy
individual.

2. Community-Adoption Program in support to the pig technology

needs of a particular community.

3. Extension and Consultancy Programs

• Farm Business Advisory. The Center’s highly trained and technically

capable staff regularly renders their expertise to pig farm owners
either through farm visits, emails, sms messages or through written
communication. The Center also provides assistance to related
organizations and institutions to strengthen and intensify existing set-
up related to pig husbandry.

• Information Dissemination. The Center believes that

information dissemination is a vital component of a training program.
Technical updates are provided to a wider audience through the ATI-
ITCPH newsletter, the publication of pig keeping manuals (Filipino &
English) and the development of print and audiovisual materials.

• Techno-Demo. The 120-sow level farm is open to student-trainees

who would want to specialize on pig management. Farm visits and
orientation are also accepted.

→ Generating Resources for an Ecologically-sound and Enviro

nment-friendly Nature (GREEN) Farm. A premier agri-tourism
site, promoting doable, visible, replicable and sustainable integrated
farming with a dose of entertainment. Following the creed “Live,
Learn, Love, Laugh,” the GREEN Farm complements ATI-ITCPH’s
learning by doing principle as it provides additional learning
experiences for capability enhancement whilst offering relaxation
and leisure for various clienteles. An all-around development, it
integrates crop production with animal husbandry, fisheries and
other side occupations. With its various stations, it showcases a
whole farm management system wherein farm products and by-
products are equally used for mutual benefit.

4. Networking

Collaborative efforts with partner institutes both here and abroad are
continuously pursued and intensified. Such program
results in a wider base of knowledge in the development of appropriate
technology options for pig producers. Linkages with private organizations
are continuously pursued and a major activity of the Center.

one utilizes radio as platform for interactive discussions and lectures
among pre-identified Batangueño farmers on various topics concerning
livestock.

The radio airing usually lasts for five (5) to six (6) sessions covering
pre-selected topics and delivered by competent and highly qualified
resource persons, followed by practical session and ending to a massive
graduation ceremony. Listeners are expected to be well-equipped with
necessary knowledge and skills needed to deliver the work of a livestock
raiser and producer.
COURSE CONTENTS

Aimed at maximizing the power and capacity of radio in delivering

important messages, this training is designed to reach numerous
number of people who would like to gain knowledge and skills on livestock
farming at their most convenient time. Relatively, the endeavor covers
the following:

Lecture Series and Discussion

→ Any topics concerning livestock production as per the needs and
requirements identified by the selected farmers in Batangas

Practical Exam
→ Listeners will be exposed to practical activities which would serve
as an avenue to apply all knowledge gained during aired discussions.
Here, top achievers will be identified who will be merited during
commencement exercises.

Mass Graduation
→ All listeners who have successfully passed the final assessment
examination will be accompanied by their Municipal or City Focal person
for the graduation and awarding ceremonies.

Evaluation
→ Listeners need to pass pre and post tests and midterm and final
assessment examinations before they can be awarded their certificates
of training.

REQUIREMENT

→ This undertaking is open to all Batangueño farmers, of any ages and

sexes, whose inclination fell under livestock production and willing to
devote time to listen over radio interactions.
