II. Review Related Literature

Absenteeism in school is the habit of staying away from school without providing a
genuine or any reason for not attending classes. Absenteeism is a truant behavior
that negatively affects the performance among students ( Keter, 2012). Absenteeism
can lead to depression and also result in poor quality of education. It could also lead
to moral degradation that leads to drug abuse, early pregnancies and unruly
behavior.
Absenteeism disturbed the dynamic teaching – learning development and adversely
affects the overall well - being of class (Segal,2008). In quality terms, absenteeism is
a waste of educational resources, time and lessons potential.
The problem of absenteeism is becoming the concern of every member of society
since it has negative consequences at both the individual and social level. For
instance, studies carried (Bowen,2005) about improving the quality and quantity of
attendance data on enhance student retention have established that students who
attend class more regularly seem to be more successful in their studies than those
who frequently absent.
(Reid,2005) postulated that when students are absent from schooling, there are a
wide range of short term educational consequences that they face. First and
foremost, studies miss out a assignments, recitation, and quizzes. Missing those
important requirements in school more likely to underachieve or perform poorly in
different subjects. An obvious negative impact on student achievement and social
outcomes was the result of absenteeism. Student who skip classes tend to perform
badly thereby severely limiting their chances of economic and social well – being
throughout their adult age.
On the other hand, according to study conducted by (Teasly,2004) asserted that
students have poor or conflicting relationships with teachers will avoid school in
order to avoid their teachers.

What are the intervention or strategies used by teachers in solving

The results of this study will be of great use to the following:

STUDENTS – This study will help convince the students to attend their class
regularly since this will provide them factual information about the benefits that they
can acquire in attending school and possible effect of them being absent in class.

IV. Results and Discussion

The survey was conducted at Bolingit National High School and there were 40
selected Grade 9 respondents participate in answering the survey.
Based on the survey of the students in Grade 9, they are saying that Laziness is the
main problem of Absenteeism.

Laziness is the one major factor of absenteeism in Grade 9 students. This is the
cause of their absenteeism.

the absenteeism.

V. Recommendation
1. Students should send their excuse letter to their teacher so that the teacher may
consider that they are not absent in the class. It is important to deal our sincerity, and
also the person knows the value of time.
2. The students should continue their studies even many obstruction will come to
their life as youth. They should increase their involvement in different school
activities in order to avoid boredom and being absent in school.
3. Parents and teachers should have a harmonious relationship that will guide
students to achieve their goals in life. Thus, creating an agreement to parents on
helping the teachers to encourage their child in attending the class everyday should
be highlighted.
4. Teachers must work hand in hand in providing and giving all the opportunities to
the students for them to grow and learn during their stay in school.
