Executive Summary
E-Commerce is a common phenomena in today’s world. Almost every organization now tries to
catch up with the moving world through E-commerce and Internet. They try to create value for
their customers in newer ways. They try to share important information as much as possible
and try to connect and keep in touch with their customers through technology mediated way.
All the technology mediated exchanges between parties are called E-Commerce. We have
prepared a report regarding this issue covering the practices of E-commerce by ClickBD.com
(The no. 1 E-Commerce site in Bangladesh). We have gathered many information about their
business, methods, systems and practices in Bangladesh. We have observed ClickBD’s process
of doing business, how they help to complete a transaction, their categorization, website etc.
We have also mentioned about the users of E-commerce, products and services provided by
ClickBD, platforms, process of buying and selling through ClickBD, payment mechanism, delivery
process etc. One can also give free advertisement of his/her thing to be sold at ClickBD. Process
of posting, promoting, managing, searching and replying an advertisement also described in our
report. The marketing strategies, Challenges, threats, negative aspects, future plans and
business models are described with the viewpoint of ClickBD.com. We tried to give our best to
prepare this report and tried to make this report interesting for the readers. The details
discussions are given in the later parts of this report. We hope that after reading this report we
will succeed to add value for the readers about E-commerce. This report offers a lot besides the

E-commerce refers to the technology mediated exchanges between parties, that is buying and
selling of products or services over electronic systems through Internet and other computer
networks and other electronic activities that facilitate these transactions.
The most popular medium in which e-commerce is conducted is the internet. It combines a
range of process such as:
 Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
 Electronic mail (E-mail)
 World Wide Web (WWW)
 Internet Applications
 Network Applications
Some common applications related to electronic commerce are the following:
 Email
 Enterprise content management
 Instant messaging
 Newsgroups
 Online shopping and order tracking
 Online banking
 Online office suites
 Domestic and international payment systems
 Shopping cart software
 Teleconferencing
 Electronic tickets etc.

Importance and Uses of E-commerce


1. Exploitation of New Business
Broadly speaking, electronic commerce emphasizes the generation and exploitation of new
.business opportunities and to use popular phrases: “generate business value” or “do more
with less”.

2. Enabling the Customers

Electronic Commerce is enabling the customer to have an increasing say in what products are
made, how products are made and how services are delivered (movement from a slow order
fulfillment process with little understanding of what is taking place inside the firm, to a faster
and rt1ore open process with customers having greater control.
3. Improvement of Business Transaction
Electronic Commerce endeavors to improve the execution of business transaction over various
networks.
4. Effective Performance
It leads to more effective performance i.e. better quality, greater customer satisfaction and
better corporate decision making.
5. Greater Economic Efficiency
We may achieve greater economic efficiency (lower cost) and more rapid exchange (high speed,
accelerated, or real-time interaction) with the help of electronic commerce.
6. Execution of Information
It enables the execution of information-laden transactions between two or more parties using
inter connected networks. These networks can be a combination of ‘plain old telephone
system’ (POTS), Cable TV, leased lines and wireless. Information based transactions are creating
new ways of doing business and even new types of business.
7. Incorporating Transaction
Electronic Commerce also inco11'orates transaction management, which organizes, routes,
processes and tracks transactions. It also includes consumers making electronic payments and
funds transfers.
8. Increasing of Revenue
Firm use technology to either lower operating costs or increase revenue. Electronic Commerce
has the Potential to increase revenue by creating new markets for old products, creating new
information-based products, and establishing new service delivery channels to better serve and
interact with customers.

9. Reduction of Friction

Electronic Commerce research and its associated implementations is to reduce the “friction” in
on line transactions frictions is often described in economics as transaction cost. It can arise
from inefficient market structures and inefficient combinations of the technological activities
required to make a transaction. Ultimately, the reduction of friction in online commerce will
enable smoother transaction between buyers, intermediaries and sellers.
10. Facilitating of Network Form
Electronic Commerce is also impacting business .to business interactions. It facilitates the
network form of organization where small flexible firms rely on other partner, companies for
component supplies and product distribution to meet changing customer demand more
effectively. Hence, an end to end relationship management solution is a desirable goal that is
needed to manage the chain of networks linking customers, workers, suppliers, distributors
and even competitors. The management of "online transactions" in the supply chain assumes a
central role.
11. Facilitating for Organizational Model
It is facilitating an organizational model that is fundamentally different from the past. It is a
control organization to the information based organization. The emerging forms of techno-
organizational structure involve changes in managerial responsibilities, communication and
information flows and work group structure.
Advantages and Disadvantages of E-commerce
The invention of faster internet connectivity and powerful online tools has resulted in a new
commerce arena – Ecommerce. Ecommerce offered many advantages to companies and
customers but it also caused many problems.
Advantages of E-commerce
 Faster buying/selling procedure, as well as easy to find products.
 Buying/selling 24/7.
 More reach to customers, there is no theoretical geographic limitations.
 Low operational costs and better quality of services.
 No need of physical company set-ups.
 Easy to start and manage a business.

 Customers can easily select products from different providers without moving around
physically.
Disadvantages of E-commerce
 Any one, good or bad, can easily start a business. And there are many bad sites which
eat up customers’ money.
 There is no guarantee of product quality.
 Mechanical failures can cause unpredictable effects on the total processes.
 As there is minimum chance of direct customer to company interactions, customer
loyalty is always on a check.
 There are many hackers who look for opportunities, and thus an ecommerce site,
service, payment gateways, all are always prone to attack.

Overview of e-commerce business in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh there is a limited application and use of B2C e-commerce .This field is not yet
much developed in Bangladesh. There are many reasons behind it one simple reason is this
country is not so developed and most of its citizens are poor and uneducated. It is quit natural
that there are few customers who is willing and can shop in internet. It will take years to be
developed this sector in Bangladesh. The telecommunication infrastructure of any country
affect the Internet services directly, cause it is largely dependent on it. Telecommunication
sector in Bangladesh is characterized by:
1. Poor level of penetration
2. High cost to access and
3. A lengthy waiting period
The Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) Is the one and only provider and
enjoying monopoly in providing basic telephone connections. The private sectors are now
involving in cellular phones and also working as Internet Service Providers (ISP).
Due to many reasons B2C e-commerce will not be able to be of much use in Bangladesh. The
reasons are:
1. Low per capita income
2. A weak infrastructural and legal environment
3. Lack of trust between business and consumers.
4. Non-availability of international credit cards
5. Foreign currency remittance restrictions
6. Delays and informal payments at customs clearance.
On the other hand, In Bangladesh B2B e-commerce is already in operation for years. Export
sector has the great use of it. A major field of the use of e-commerce is ready made garments
(RMG) sector. They use internet for searching potential buyer and supplier. There are some
local websites which provides facility of C2C e-commerce in Bangladesh. In those websites both
the customer or buyer and seller can interact directly with each other. ClickBD.com,
bikroy.com, cellbazar.com are most famous. Here we have selected ClickBD.com for reporting
purpose.

Based on two dimensions: online or offline presence and customer interface or fulfillment
system, we can easily identify where ClickBD.com is playing to serve its customer. ClickBD.com
is an e-commerce site that gives a platform to the sellers to sell and to the buyers to buy their
products online. So, internet is used for both customer interface and back office system.

ClickBD.com is an e-commerce site that gives a platform to the sellers to sell and buyers to buy
their products online. ClickBD.com does not sell any product directly, in every ad the seller’s
contact number is given so buyers call them to know about the product. So, it is involved in C2C
e-commerce; if categorizing e-commerce based on the business origination and customer
types.

Design elements of ClickBD’s website (7Cs Framework)


A virtual website of any business can give significant information to current and prospective
target-market customers. An effectively designed website can quickly answer many basic

questions of the target customers. Even it can attract the non-targeted customers too. So,
design of the website is very important. Design element of ClickBD’s website is described below
according to the 7Cs framework.
Context:
Context of a website can be aesthetic or functional. Aesthetic sites focus heavily on interesting
graphics, colors and design features, while functional sites focus more on ease of navigation,
speed, usability etc.
We can say that ClickBD maintains both the aesthetic and functional contexts together. It works
as a platform of buying and selling. It does not buy or sell anything directly. So, it ensures that
website is easily accessible and usable by the sellers and buyers. For this purpose it maintains
the functional look. There are pictures of different products. For some products clear pictures
are very important. For facilitating this purpose ClickBD also maintains aesthetic look of the
website to some extent.
Content:
Content includes all digital subject matters of a site. It includes text, video, audio graphics etc.
ClickBD uses number of texts and photographs of the products of its customer. Telephone
numbers and mail address are also provided for offline transaction between the sellers and
buyers.
Community:
Community is the interaction between the site users. It can be between two users through e-
mails or between one user and many through chat room.
For ClickBD it is one user to many. A seller can communicate with many customers by giving his
ad in ClickBD. Then after a bidding process he can select his customer. For a buyer the case is
also the same.

Customization:
Customization is defined as the site’s ability to tailor itself or to be tailored by each user. When
the firm manages the customization it is called tailoring. When it is initiated and managed by
users it is called personalization.

In case of ClickBD there is both tailoring and personalization. ClickBD determines how different
categories will be seen in the website page, how one can give any ad etc. There are certain
rules of ClickBD regarding posting, promoting, managing ads in their website. From this view
point ClickBD maintains tailoring for customization.
Some personalization options are also available. A seller can determine how he wants to
advertise his product. Whether it will be a premium ad or not depends on the seller’s choice.
He also enjoys the option of managing, changing and deleting his ads. A buyer can save 3 ads as
favorite at a time so that whenever he goes to the website the selected ads come to his home
page. ClickBD does not have any restrictions regarding these issues.
Communication:
Communication is the dialogue between the site and users. It can be site to user, user to site
and two way communications.
For ClickBD it is user to site communication. Users can contact with ClickBD through e-mail.
Helpline number is available for customer service.
Connection:
Connection means the extent of formal linkage between the site and other sites.
ClickBD has some trusted sellers. It has connections to these sites. By clicking on any company’s
name we can easily go to that particular company’s site. On the other hand when we go to
some social networking sites specially face book we can see the ads of ClickBD. By clicking there
one can enter to ClickBD’s website too.
Commerce:
Commerce means sale of goods, products or services on the site.
ClickBD does not do any commerce. It works only as a platform of buying and selling. But it does
not directly sell or buy any products or services.

purpose here. Even if one can know about any job vacancy and can submit his VC here. One can
post ad for tuition also. Thus ClickBD gives opportunity to the people to buy and sell different
categories of products and services. In its website the categories are classified in a very
organizing form. So users face no difficulties to find out the desired product or service.

and sub-domains of http://www.ClickBD.com/ (the "Site") (including stores.ClickBD.com) and
the general principles for the websites of their subsidiaries and affiliates. For mobile connection
one can go to http://m.clickbd.com. If someone has any questions, he/she can refer the problem to

Process of Selling & Buying On ClickBD.Com


ClickBD.com is an e-commerce site that gives a platform to the sellers to sell and buy their
products online. They do not sell any product directly, in every ad the sellers contact number is
given so buyers call them to know about the product.
Selling Process
Becoming a Member
It is needed to be a member at ClickBD.com if anyone sells his product through using this online
portal. It is easy to be member of ClickBD.com.
There are two ways to register with the ClickBD.com website.
     1) People can use their face book account to register.
     2) People will need an email address and a mobile number to register. The email address and
mobile number has to be unique to the account and cannot be replaced once the account is
created.
Once the details are submitted, a confirmation email has been sent to the registered email
address.
There is no fee for registration and it takes lesser than 5 minutes. As a member, anybody have
access to all the features. He or she can buy and sell on the ClickBD.com website. He can post
free Ads, save Ads as browse along, and manage Ads etc.
The account can be blocked or barred, if the member has violated any of the ClickBD.com rules
and regulations. In this situation it is needed to call the customer support team to resolve the
problem.

Listing and Selling.
Listing Description
 The seller must be legally able to sell the item that he lists for sale on the Site.
 Seller must describe his or her item and all terms of sale on the listing page of the Site.
 Here, the listings may only include text descriptions, graphics, pictures and other
content relevant to the sale of that item.
 All listed items must be listed in an appropriate category. All items in multiple item
listings must be identical.
 All auction listing must not contain negotiable price information or seller's direct contact
information or any information that indicate intention of bypassing ClickBD.com system.
Market Price
The seller must not put too high Reserve Price or unreal Market Price on the listing.
Binding Bids
Except for items listed in a category under the Non-binding Bid Policy, if seller receives at least
one bid at or above the stated minimum price or in the case of reserve auctions, at or above the
reserve price, seller is obligated to complete the transaction with the highest bidder upon the
auction's completion, unless there is an exceptional circumstance, such as:
(a) The buyer fails to meet the terms of the seller’s listing (such as payment method), or
(b) The seller cannot authenticate the buyer's identity.
Sellers may not manipulate the price of any item and may not interfere with other user's listings
or transactions.
 

Selling Policy
ClickBD.com does not permit posting or listing of classified ads in relation to the following:
1. Online Money earning ads: Ads of this nature are in most cases picked up as scams or frauds
therefore 'posting money earning ads' is not permitted on ClickBD.com .com
2. Duplicate ad listings are not allowed: Any ad posted more than once with the same content
or title in the same category would be considered as a duplicate ad. Here, sellers are advised to

post multiple ads only if they have different items or services for sale. All Duplicate ads would
be deleted and the user will be suspended if the problem persists.
3. Multiple Listing: Listing a single item but offering several other identical items at the item
description is called multiple listing. ClickBD.com users are allowed to list only one item per ad.
4. Incorrect category: sellers must list their items in the most appropriate category.
Furthermore, each item or service can only be listed in one category.
Items That Are Prohibited By ClickBD.com
It is the responsibility of both the seller and the buyer to ensure that transactions completed on
ClickBD.com are for items and services that are appropriate for sale under all applicable laws
and regulations. There are some things that may not be listed or sold on ClickBD.com. These
include:     
1. Online Money Earning Ads
2. Firearms and ammunition    
3. Fireworks and explosives    
4. Government IDs and police items    
5. Hacking and illegal surveillance equipment    
6. Hazardous goods    
7. Illegal counterfeit goods    
8. Human parts, body fluids, and human remains    
9. Illegal drugs    
10. Non-transferable contracts    
11. Recalled goods
12. Stocks, bonds, and securities    
13. Stolen goods  
14. The sale of alcohol to persons not of lawful age   
15. The sale of cigarettes to persons not of lawful age
Consequences for Breach of Selling Policy
Users who violate any of the above mentioned selling policies may be subjected to the
following actions.

1. Suspension or termination of membership    
2. Permanent blocking of access to the site    
3. Reporting to Law Enforcement or Appropriate Authorities
Buying Process
ClickBD.com is a Venue where anyone can buy his or her necessary goods or services through
fixed price format or auction-style format. As a buyer, they are obligated to complete the
transaction with the seller:
 If they purchase an item through fixed price formats; or
 If they are the highest bidder at the end of an auction meeting the applicable
minimum bid or reserve requirements and this bid is accepted by the seller.
1. Fixed Price Marketplace
It is available for the customer to purchase items at a fixed price from a service on an area of
the site. This area is a venue that allows users to find and purchase items from other users at a
fixed price.
2. Auction-style format
Actually, ClickBD.com is not a traditional auctioneer. But we may refer it to as an online auction
web site. The Site acts as a venue to allow anyone to offer, sell, and buy just about anything, at
anytime, from anywhere, in an auction-style format commonly referred to as "online auctions"
or "auctions."
As a buyer, they are obligated to complete the transaction with the seller if they are the highest
bidder at the end of an auction meeting the applicable minimum bid or reserve requirements
and this bid is accepted by the seller.
Bids are not retractable except in exceptional circumstances, such as:
 The seller materially changes the item's description after you bid;
 A clear typographical error is made;
 Buyer cannot authenticate the seller's identity; or
 The seller does not confirm buyer’s purchase in the fixed price area.

The buyer can contact the seller directly by using the highlighted email option on the Ad page
or on the mobile number provided. It is allowed to mail the seller with regards to any doubts or
query that may have about the product on the Ad.

Payment process
Online payments can be made at the E-stores section of the ClickBD.com website. Products
advertised on E-stores can be bought using Click-card.
Click-Card is a pre-paid payment card designed to be used on the internet. By using it people
can buy anything from ClickBD.com online store and other online stores as well. People just
have to go the online store www.clickBD.com or merchant website of ClickBD.com and choose

the right product and add it to cart, where they can see their all online purchases. Make the
transaction through Click-Card and enjoy free home delivery.

It is a unique online payment solution designed for Bangladesh that offers the buyer complete
security while shopping on the internet. It is Bangladesh's first online payment card. With no
extra charges or yearly fees, someone can finally enjoy the freedom of online shopping. People
do not have to have a bank account or any type of bank cards to get a Click-Card of their own.

Not many people have credit cards in Bangladesh which make online shopping impossible for
