EXERCISE 1

Generate the pattern of the following. Show your complete

solution. Write your answer in your activity notebook or answer sheet.

1. Olive helps her mother in selling “ibos” (a delicacy from Miagao). On

the 1st week that she helped her mother their income is Php1000, on the
second week their income was Php1100, on the third week their income
was Php1200. If the pattern of their income continues how much will
their income be on the tenth week? Show the pattern of their income
using the table and write the nth term of the sequence.

2. Ms. Bea Lopez, a math teacher requires her students to write a journal
every week about the things they learned in her class. On the first week
she told them to write sentences compose of 50 words and must increase
the words they will use by 20 words each week thereafter. If the pattern
continues, how many words will they be writing after the 8th week? What
is the nth term of the sequence? Quarter 1 Week 1- C
(M10AL-Ia-1)
The learner generates patterns.

GENERALIZATIONS To check if our nth tern is correct let us substitute n with the
following values 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7
A sequence is a function whose domain is the finite set {1, 2, an= 15n + 5
3,...n} or the infinite set {1, 2, 3,…}.Each element or object in the
sequence is called term. If n = 1, an = 15(1) + 5 = 20
A sequence having last term is called finite sequence while a n = 2, an = 15(2) + 5 = 35
sequence with no last term is called infinite sequence. n = 3, an = 15(3) + 5 = 50
n = 4, an = 15(4) + 5 = 65
n = 5, an = 15(5) + 5 = 80
n = 6, an = 15(7) + 5 = 95
EXAMPLE 1 n = 7, an = 15(7) + 5 = 110

Generating pattern from a given problem.

The Math Club proposed a project in collecting soft drinks bottles to EXAMPLE 2
lessen the trash in your school. If the officers can collect 20 soft drinks
bottles on the first day, 35 on the second day , 50 on the third day, and if
the pattern continues, how many soft drinks bottles can they collect in one Generate the pattern.
week? What is the nth term of the given sequence?
A merchandiser in Green Ribbon was tasked to stack 22 cans of
Solution: evaporated milk with 10 cans at the bottom of the stack. The illustration is
The number of bottles collected increases by 15 each day. Writing it shown at the below. What is the nth term of the given sequence.
in a table we will have the following data:

Day Number of Bottles

Collected
1st day 20
2nd day 35
3rd day 50
4th day 65
5th day 80
6th day 95 Solution: If we look at the figure the stack of cans decreases by 3.
There are 4 layers of stacks of cans.
7th day 110 The first layer has 10 can.
The last layer has 1 cans.
So, the number of soft drinks bottles that they can collect in one
week is 20 + 35 + 50 + 65 + 60 + 95 + 110 = 455 To find the nth term multiply the increase of the number of cans in
each stack to the number of layers (3)(n) = 3n and add the difference between
To find the nth term multiply the increase of collected bottles to the the number of cans in the first layer and the increase 10 – (– 3) = -2. So the
number of days of collection (15)(n) = 5n and add the difference between nth term will be an= -3n + 13
the first number of collected bottles and the increase (20 -15 = 5). So the
nth term will be an= 15n + 5
