1. Explain comprehensively in less than 10 sentences the role and

significance of oral language in reading and writing development.

Oral language plays a pivotal role in the child's reading and writing
development. It is believed that when a child has poor oral language skills in
the beginning stage, it results in reading difficulties in the later years, thus,
complicating other aspects of reading and writing which may be difficult for
reading and writing to be successful.

For one, oral language develops vocabulary knowledge that enables a

child to grasp the word meanings and articulation through listening. With this,
the reader is now able to use the word appropriately based on a given context.
Moreover, through oral language, children learn language structures and how
these components work together to create meaningful communication which
has an advantage in the reading and writing process. On another light, oral
language aids one's understanding of a particular culture that helps improve
the child's reading comprehension which significantly reinforces their
knowledge of the world at large. Lastly, oral language amplifies the many uses
and purposes of language that greatly impacts both the social and academic
success of the child.

In conclusion, children must possess oral language skills for their

literary skills to flourish and for them to become communicatively competent.
2. Discuss intelligently the characteristics of skilled readers and writers and
the many purposes of reading and writing in everyday and professional life.
Successful oral language development can be looked further into the
characteristics of highly skilled readers and writers. As I have observed,
readers and writers at this stage, exhaust themselves to the print materials by
analyzing the text as well as scrutinizing the elements of the text, evaluating
text for salient ideas, and be able to predict and monitor their understanding
as they read. Furthermore, it is quite evident that these types of readers can
read different kinds of text regardless of the genre and style of writing and still
be able to construct, revise, and question as they read.

As for skilled writers, they can adapt grammar conventions in their

writing, observe cohesion and coherence with a very strong lead with
introduction, body, and conclusion, use citations properly, as well as use
words appropriately based on the given context. These are just some of the
characteristics of skilled readers and writers.

Having the necessary knowledge and skills in reading and writing has
taken much of an advantage in the social and academic realm. In school,
students may have to write an excuse letter for his absence or write an essay
on a specific topic, and even instructions and other types of communication.
Also, they may be task to have an extensive reading along with their literary
analysis and so on. Besides, on a day to day basis, these students will have to
face the actual realities later on in life where they will encounter debates on
societal issues, for example, which requires them to present their ideas
comprehensively.

Therefore, the instruction of oral language plays a critical role in

producing effective and highly skilled readers and writers who are as well as
critical and creative thinkers.
