Instructions: Read the following case then answer the case questions below.

Case 1

UAAP sports program conducts a poll to the viewers to see which team will win
the UAAP Men's Basketball League in 2020 championship. Viewers will vote via
SMS to the number displayed on the television screen and text which team
they think will win. Do you think the responses of the viewers to the poll is
enough to predict who will become the champion? Yes or No and Why?

No, it isn't enough to predict who would become the next champion. What had been
done is just a mere prediction that might or might not happen. There's always a probability
that the results are not good enough to conclude who will win or who won't and there was
already this biases before the poll starts because the viewers itself have their own biases
wherein they will cast their votes. One thing as because of the popularity of the teams that
was involved in the said tournament. There are power rankings before the start of the season
that can be used in order to assess each team's individual and team capabilities, their
superiority above each other; there are other external and internal factors that could affect the
end result of things. There are always surprises in each season of UAAP, there are emerging
stars, injuries, and other uncertain things that would greatly alter the performance of each
team. In statistics, there is always margin for error in each survey that expresses how
something with a certain amount of percentage can be wrong depending on the situation.
Also, the text votes are highly subjective and will be based on their preferences rather than
assessing the skill set of the team. Concluding the basketball winners depend on how every
team will perform and the votes in the poll might just be based on every team's popularity.

Case 2
An elementary school increased the length of the school hours per day from
6.5 to 7.5 hours. Students who want to attend are required to sign contracts
that they will promise to give their best effort on their school work and to obey
the school rules; if they did not wish to do so, they could attend another
elementary school in the city. At the end of school year, student performance
on assessments increased by 10% compared last year. Does this improvement
prove that a longer school hours improves student performance? Yes or No
and Why?

No, because even though the performance of students increased by 10%; it does not
necessarily mean that the cause is the extended school hours. Increasing the length of the
school hours per day will not guarantee that it was also the reason of the increased of student
performance on assessment because there are still some factors that contribute with the
increase of the student performance. One good example of this was the continuous
improvement of an individual was innate. In fact, researchers conducted in other countries
have found out that student performance is better when there are less school hours causing
the students to focus more on the subjects and still have time to relax and refreshen
themselves. In my opinion, the reason why the students performed better is because of the
contract that they signed before the school year which states that if they aren't doing their best
and are not following the school rules; they would've ended in another school found in the
city. This circumstances only means that the increase in longer hours of staying in school per
day doesn’t prove the increase in the improvement of student performance assessment.
