LESSON 3: EQUIPMENTS IN BADMINTON

Description of the Lesson:

In this lesson ,you will identify the different equipment used in Badminton, also the facilities.

Objectives
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
a. Identify the different equipment and facilities used in Badminton , also it’s officials
b. Draw the court dimension of badminton
c. Recognize the significance of badminton officials.

Badminton Equipment
 Rackets- the rackets are make of wood. Contemporary racquets are made of different materials
such as carbon fiber, aluminum, steel or titanium. The weight of the rackets is about 70-100
grams. Most executive players use special wrapping on the racket handle ( grip), which bring the
athletes to attain the best control.

 Shuttlecock- There are two types of shuttlecocks: plastic ones and the ones with natural feathers.
Plastic shuttlecocks are more appropriate for amateurs and some types of training. A plastic
shuttlecock consists of a cork or synthetic head and a plastic ‘skirt’ attached to it. The feather
shuttlecock is made of 16 goose feathers.

 Badminton Shoes- Badminton shoes have serious lateral support of the ankle, which block the
ankles, from tuckling in with a sharp change of direction and lunges.

 NET- is limited above by a strip of 0.25 feet, which is folded in a half.

Badminton Court Dimensions and Net Height( Facilities)


The Badminton court is a rectangular shape. The general dimensions of a badminton court is 20 feet by 44
feet. For a doubles game, the width of the court should be 20 feet. The net is installed at a height of 5.1
feet; the height of the net in the center is limited above by a strip of 0.25 feet, which is folded in half.
Another issential pat of the court is the markup. The width of the marking lines is 4 centimeters. At a
distance of 6,5 feet from the grid .there is the service line and the backline , there is the service zone. The

central line divides the service zone into the right and the left areas

Badminton Officials
 Referee- the referee is the most require officials of the whole tournament. He or she is responsible
of the competition and require that the tournament is initiate the laws of badminton including
court, rackets and shuttlecock measurement.
 Umpire- the umpire is responsible in particular match and it is in charge of the court. It is the
umpire responsibility to judge service faults and other players fault. The umpire keeps a record of
any misbehavior or incident and reports it to the referee. Keeping the match score .
 Service Judge- The service judge has power for making a service fault call and to provide
shuttles to the player.
 Line Judge- the line judges are responsible for designating whether a shuttlecock landed ‘in’ or
‘out’ if the shuttles lands near the lines he/she assigned to control.
