Mathematical Problem (Winding)

1. The winding drum of a high speed cone winder having a diameter of 3 " makes 2870 r.p.m.
The actual amount of yarn wound in 9 hrs was found to be 332,838 yds. What is the efficiency?

3
Calculated production in 9 hrs =    2870  60  9
36
= 405,400 yds.
Actual production
Efficiency =  100%
Calculated production
332,838
=  100% = 82%
405,900

2. Calculate the efficiency of a modern high speed cone winding machine if its actual production
per 8 hrs is found to be 384 hanks. The rate of winding (calculated) is 800 yds per min.

Calculated production in 8 hrs = 800  60  8 yds.

Actual production in 8 hrs = 384 × 840 yds.
Actual production
Efficiency =  100%
Calculated production
384  840
=  100% = 84%
800  60  8

3. The calculated rate of winding based on actual measurement of a modern high speed fully
automatic pirn winder is 552 yds per min. If the production per day of 8 hrs per spindle is 14
lbs of 20’S yarn. Calculate efficiency.

Calculated production / spindle per hr = 552  60 yds.

14
Actual production / spindle per hr =  20  840 yds.
8
= 29400 yds.
Actual production
Efficiency =  100%
Calculated production
29400
=  100%  88.77%
33120
4. Production of pirn winding machine per shift per spindle is 10 lbs for 120tex cotton yarn. If
the machine runs at 600 yds/min. Calculate efficiency.
Solution:
Calculated production = 600 yds per min.
= 600 × 60 × 8 yds per shift
= 288000 yds per shift
1000 10  453.6 1.0936
Actual production per spindle per shift = yds.
120
= 41338.08 yds
Actual production
Efficiency =  100%
Calculated production
41338 .08
= 100% = 14.35%
288000
