Dear Parents/Guardians:

This letter is to make you aware that we have some students at St. Johns Middle School who have tested
positive for COVID-19. The positive cases appear to stem from a non- school event this past weekend. This
has led to several students and staff members having to be quarantined for the next two weeks.

The Mid-Michigan District Health Department is currently investigating the situation and working with our staff
to identify any individuals who were close contacts that will need to be quarantined. The staff has let individual
families know if their child’s name has been submitted to the Health Department for contact tracing purposes.
Until the Health Department makes contact with these families these individual students should stay home and
connect virtually to their classes. The Health Department will determine if your child needs to quarantine for
the 14 day period.

Because of the number of positive cases and the contact tracing that needs to occur, the Middle School will
be closed to in person learning on Thursday, October 29th. ALL students will need to connect in through
Zoom on Thursday and follow their daily schedule. Friday is already scheduled to be a districtwide
asynchronous day. There will be a meal pickup for anyone on Thursday from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the high
school athletic entrance.

Once we have more information about the number of positive cases and the extent of the quarantines, we will
determine the platform of instruction for Monday, November 2nd. You can expect updates on whether we
return to in-person instruction or continue remote learning.

Our schools will continue to implement thorough cleaning procedures to protect our staff and students.
Please continue to be vigilant in following safety protocols and monitoring yourself and your child for any
symptoms that could be related to COVID-19.

Sincerely,

Mark Palmer
Superintendent
