Introduction

Introduction to Petroleum Engineering is a general subject involving many core subjects such
as Petroleum Geology, Formation Evaluation and etc. This subject require its student to go for
a filed trip to Petrosains. Petrosains is a great museum that contain a lot of knowledge and
interactive science discovery. This report was written as a requirement to express the
knowledge that we learnt during our visit to Petrosains.

Pictorial Report

This is a samples of metamorphic rock that being shown in Petroscience. There are several of
other sample such as lime stone, sandstone and etc. We can view the structure of this rock
under microscope.

Zooming at the structure of metamorphic rock under microscope. The structure of matrix and
pores can be clearly seen using the microscope.

These are other samples of rock beside metamorphic. Each of this sample have different type
of structure and pore.

 This section explained about minerals and crystal. It showed the details about formation
characteristic of some minerals and crystals.

Observing sample of limestone and several other stone that being display in the petrosains.
Different stone have different texture.

 This tool represented the concept of trap in reservoir where gas and oil were trap in the
reservoir rock.

Sample of drill bit that are being used to drill well. Different type of formation need specific
type of drill bit. It can be divided onto two category which are tricone and fixed cutter.

This are example of fixed cutter drill bit which can be categorize as polycristalline diamond
cutter drill bit or PDC

Hook that being use to move and transport equipment on the platform.

 Duplicate structure of oil rig. We can get the experience how it feel and the condition to be
on a platform of oil rig. A safety capsule was placed on the platform in case of emergency.

As we learnt in the class, wireline logging tool is one of common type tool that being used in
oil and gas industry. It was displayed in the Petrosains during our visit.

Example of casing that being used during well drilling. Its function is to maintain the
structure of the well during oil recovery.

My friends and I took a picture in front of Petrosains during our visit.

Conclusion
Introduction to Petroleum Engineering is a great subject with a lot of knowledge to learn and
discover many things about petroleum. This field trip to Petrosains is a good event that bring
a lot of exposure and experienced for the student. Knowledge that we get from the field trip
come in handy during our lecture in the class. Looking forward to another field trip in the
future.
